I just received my Eurail Selectpass from UPS, and I looked at the rail schedule, and the night train from Paris to Barcelona only has sleepers and no couchettes… (they have different icons for sleepers and couchettes, and on this particular route, they show only the sleeper icon)

This really sucks, cuz I don’t wanna pay 50-80 bucks for a sleeper…

Is there anything I can do to get from Paris to Barcelona on the night of July 3, 2005, on a COUCHETTE? It seems like there’s only one train a night from Paris to Barcelona, and that’s the 8:32PM train… So NONE of these trains have couchettes? This freakin sucks…

I already bought the selectpass, so i dunno what to do… please help… (i tried searching on this site, but all the advice seems oudated now…)

its no big deal, you take a different overnight train to the border (la tour de carol) then connect to a morning train that takes you to barcelona. all the backpackers go this way

There are 5 night trains on this route, just pick a different one. The schedule that came with your railpass represents only a small fraction of the available trains.

Tof.. can you give me some more details about the train to the border and where I would buy tickets for that? Does taking this train mean I will have to change trains several times?

Noreen, for the one I mentioned, you change trains once, at dawn at the border. You can buy tickets for it at Paris Gare d’Austerlitz, from where it departs. Only a few carriages out of a very long train make the transfer, so make sure you board the right car.

yes you can use your railpass, the first train would be the one with the couchette, the dawn train would be a regular train.

If you want to go without changing trains, in a couchette, the supplement is 59 euros for tourist class, and it’s the train that leaves Paris Austerlitz at 20:32, arriving Barcelona at 8:24. The info is here: http://www.elipsos.c…
