7 or 8 hours. It is actually closer to Vienna than to Berlin!

B E A U T I F U L !!!!!! What a wonderful thing you did by putting these on-line. I do have one question….. When were these taken. I noticed that most everyone was wearing a jacket. I will be there in July / Aug. and hope it will be nice. Thanks again for sharing you photos.

Hehe, there is more to see in Europe than can be done in a lifetime! You decide. I think Vienna is well worth a visit, as it is very different from Berlin. Berlin is interesting from a cultural (and sub-cultural) point of view, while it is a concrete desert. It is ugly! Vienna was once the capital of a big empire and all the fine architecture has survived the world wars almost without a scratch.

There is not much more in Austria, maybe except for Salzburg (tiny, can be seen in 1 afternoon) and a few nice places in the mountains, if you´re interested in that sort of things. But they´re nothing like the mountains you have in Peru, right in front of your door!

Your pictures from Budapest are beautiful, I was thinking about putting it on my list of ‘places to go’ before but now I have to go. One of the first pictures on your album was a beautiful hostel (or was it a hotel?) What is the name of it if you remember? I would love to stay there.

I think ill visit just a few places. I will follow that advice. Once i get to go, it will be easier to come back and visit more places. Ill break the "Europe is so far" mental wall. Smile

Hah, remember, Lima is a concrete desert as well! ;D. And very gray. So it will be alright. But i like museums and stuff so Berlin is a must check for me.

Salzburg… that’s Mozart’s birthplace, right? I guess there’s something to visit there then.

Btw, i forgot to ask. What did you like more from Perú? I think you already told me what you didnt like (excessive poverty, right?).

Mozart has spent a lot of time in Salzburg (so it´s supposed to be THE Mozart town), but he also lived in Vienna (he is buried there). He was BORN in Salzburg. There is a funny debate wether he was actually German or Austrian. Salzburg was part of Germany then, but then Germany didn´t really exist as a nation-state in 1756.

You are right, Lima IS a concrete desert, but it has a lovely old town. Berlin doesn´t even have that.

What I liked about Peru?

First of all, I do NOT dislike poor people. I dislike the fact that nobody seems to care too much about the poverty.

What I liked:
– The Limenas! It would be dishonest not to mention that. That is to answer the question where all the hotties are. They are in Buenos Aires as well, but they know it too damn well there. In Lima, all what there was to do for me is NOT TO RUN AWAY. I quite liked that!
– The Peruanos in general. Everyone was welcoming, helpful and had patience with my not-so-well Spanish. NOBODY ever tried to take advantage of me (as a clueless tourist).
– The Mountains! The scenery is really breathtaking, be it the Colca Canyon, around Huaraz or at Macchu Pichu. We have mountains here too, but they aren´t half as high and densely pupulated. It´s pretty amazing for a European to sit hours and hours in a bus and not to see any sighns of humans anywhere. Like it must have been in Europe 10.000 years ago!

Hahahaha i had such an awesome time reading your reply.

The bad thing about old people… they’re only used to receive. For free. I know, maybe my words sound hard. I’ve never worked with poor people, but i have friends who are doctors or have similar professions and have worked with them. It’s like, you want this from us? Then give us this and that and that. Not generalizing, but it’s something that happens often. I wouldn’t blame them anyway, they must be two, three times more dissapointed than us!

AHAHAHAHAHAA!!! Thanks Smile I think Limeñas are like, very caring. With guys, lol. Holy moly, in Argentina, women are STUNNING. The problem is, they think they are, that and much more. Same with guys. So , i don’t have to guess you probably broke many hearts in Lima, didn’t you?

Hahahaa, i am glad nobody stole you or anything!! ;D

Nah, for real, we love tourists. When friends come from other countries to my place…. the least thing we can make is make them feel good and show them the city and take them to nice places and etc etc. See…. a friend from high school moved on to US and just came back to Perú after 11 years. She stayed at my place, and we took her everywhere. It was great.

Similar thing happened to the german guy…. but i don’t know if he liked it or not. He surely liked certain parts, Lima ain’t that ugly!

That’s something i would never change of living here as well. If you’re in trouble… no one will throw the door in your face. There’s always somebody to support you. People is like that.

It’s ironic we can’t help eachother and get together to make this country climb up.

Hell. I’ve only been in Huaraz (my best friend is doing some medical internship there, so i might visit her one of these weekends). Machu Picchu, hell. I have to take some time off cause i’ve NEVER been there. It’s a shame, i know. Same with Colca.

You and me, we sell 8 hours a day (well, most days more than 8 hours) to our bosses. We know we´re worth something and make deals.

Imagine society confirms you on a daily basis that you are worthless. Your work is not needed. By no-one. Like: "fuck off and die". That´s pretty bad for anyone´s self-esteem. There´s no alternative to beg for what you need.

"Caring", indeed! I felt well looked after! Wink Anyway, it wasn´t my first time in South America, I was prepared for that, so I was not THAT evil, but the guy I travelled with (tall, blond…) asked me after one week if we can leave Lima because he somewhat lost the overview with his 5 new girlfriends…

It´s sort of funny, I have met quite a few people in Lima who know Europe better than the Sierra!

The hostel’s name is Art Hostel and I highly recommend them! The hostel is not in the center but a 15 minute which isn’t bad considering staying in Budapest in general is pricey. Art Hostel is right by the Nyugati Train station and very clean.

Bwahahahaha! Well, blondes ain’t my type, but i think they’re the rest of the girls’ type anyway…. at least here, yeah. We don’t see too many blonde haired people around.

So i guess that’s why they get attention!

True. Some people tends to think it’s not worth, or maybe it’s so near that they can go any other day… but they don’t go!

Absolutely. We were in Ayacucho, which – in 1996 – didn´t see any tourists for a long time (it was Sendero-Luminoso-Land). We were on the plaza and all of a sudden he was surrounded by a group of at least 20 schoolgirls. They have asked him if his hair is real, they thought all blond hair is dyed. They even came with scissors to cut some off to show it their friends. We thought we are Ricky Martin! We had to write autographs into their schoolbooks, no kidding!

Well, maybe that´s why I almost never visited a Museum in the city where I actually lived. When I return to Munich for an afternoon, I do tourist stuff…!

AHAHAHAAHA! I laughed very hard when i did read this!! Is such a very funny story. And well, glad you went in 1996. Terrorism had slowed down, but Ayacucho was the biggest victim. Of course, we didn’t really gave two cents about the Sierra situation… till terrorism reached Lima, of course!

Still, God, probably they thought you were movie stars or something. That’s quite funny, lol.

Ill try to do some tourism in my own country as well!! I don’t even know Cuzco!

Eat the food, use the wrong verbs, and end up getting charged double.
