The Pill

Hi,
I’ll be moving to Paris May 20 to live for a year or more, and was wondering if the same variety of the pill is available in France than it is in Australia.
I’m on ‘Estelle’ which is the same as ‘Diane’. If I were to go and get a prescription in France, do you think I could get the exact same pill? I lived in Switzerland a few years ago, but I wasn’t on the pill then so I’m not sure what the situation is. I want the exact same type of pill as I have now because it’s been great for my skin and I don’t want to run the risk of going on another pill if it means I may react differently to it.
I’ll go to a doctor to ask them, but I just thought someone might have an answer off the top of their head.

My guess would be that it will be difficult or impossible to get the exact medication. Even common over the counter meds, like tylenol, cold medications, antihistamines, etc. have numerous different brand names. I know there are many different types of birth control pills. You could ask your pharmacy for the product monograph, then show it to the doctor in France, who should be able to prescribe the closest type possible. Have fun in Paris!

If you have the chemical name for it they should be able to find a similar pill.

I went the chemist to get my prescription, and asked them there whether my pill is available in France. They looked it up, and it actually is, so that’s good to know. I’m not sure if they have the generic version, but as long as they have the same kind, then that’s all that matters!

From my wife’s experience you might be able to tell your (sob) story to your doctor and have him/her give you a large amount of samples
Not saying all will, but she got 8 packs this way.
Plus – I’m not sure you need a script in Europe for BC.
