I am going to Krakow Poland Oct. 31 and want to just spend the day there and go to Auschwitz and then on Nov. 1 I want to take an overnight train from Krakow to Prague. When I check the German website Die Bahn it says that there is one available but I cant book it online. How else can I book it and reserve a bed?

Did the website also mention there’s a 95% chance you’ll also get gassed & robbed on that night train?  Caveat emptor

Back to the original question….

You should be able to book this train at just about any major train station in Europe.  Try to book it three days or so in advance.  If you don’t get it done before you get to Krakow, book it as soon as you arrive there — before you leave the train station.

Actually, in January of this year, I attempted to reserve my night train from Prague to Krakow at the Frankfurt Airport. No luck. Couldn’t do it. Either the rail ticket guy was giving me a line of crap or it seriously couldn’t be done…my jury’s still out.

Bear in mind that the international ticket office in Krakow can be kind tricky to find, unless you can read or speak Polish. If you ask in the regional train area of the station, the Poles will normally just advise you to go “Straight, left.”, or “Straight, right.”, or something similarly simplistic. Follow the instructions until you’re actually out of the station heading toward the mall and the underground passage way. Coming out of the station, the international office is on your left with the mall on your right. If you’re coming from the opposite side of the station, buy a bagel and figure it out while you wander.
