Prague
Sun, 03/20/2005 - 13:45
Hi.
I’m going to Prague with a couple of friends for ten days.
I’d like to now about nightlife in Prague…
such as:
1. Are the clubs open everyday or only in weekends?
2. How are the people in Prague?
3. Have you experience something wild, bad, good etc. in Prague?
4. How do they dress?
5. Do you have any trouble by getting into clubs and bars if you’re only 17?
6. Any club(s) or bar(s) you can recommend?
Thank you for helping!
Willi

Prague is fabulous!
1. It depends on the club/bar you want to go to, just like it does everywhere else. The horribly touristy ones, like the one next to Charles Bridge is open all the time.
2. The people in Prague are fabulous! But only if you respect their culture. Learn the basic greetings and the word for beer.
3. I’ve always had a good time in Prague… until I said, "Yes, I am an American" to one particular individual. He wasn’t very nice though to begin with.
4. The club/bar dress is nice casual. So, yes to jeans and t-shirts but no to ripped jeans and t-shirts.
5. I don’t know.
6. I was taken to them by local friends and can’t remember names. Ask the locals once you get there.
There was a great club (Roxi) next door to our hostel (Travelers Hostel Dlouha). There were many locals there so it wasn’t stuffed with just backpackers. They put on quite a show that night.
As for your age…I also am not sure of the limits. My advice would be to dress for a night out but keep it respectable (ie don’t try to stick out too much) and you should be ok… in my experience, no one checked ID’s in Prague. Amy
i am going to prague for 9 days, may 20-29 and will also run the prague marathon. i am a big clubgoer but have never been to prague before, if you want to "go trolling" drop a post
2. The Brits are loud, the Germans are humourless, the Australians are friendly……..or did you mean local Czechs? Not easy to find, they avoid tourists like we have the plague. Although the crowds are a plague on the city.
4. European
5. Never even saw someone get carded.
6. The Roxy is definetly the hot spot in town especially on the weekends. Im not much into the club/disco scene but it’s supposed to get the better dj’s there. Another good place is club Lafka. Its a disco on the bottom floor and a bar upstairs with easy access between the two and an outside patio overlooking the Vltava river, a bit touristy though. If you wan’t to party with locals look for club Lucerna (sp?), but you’ll have a tough time finding it. Only got there myself becuase I made a friend who’d been there a while and was in the know. Its well hidden from tourists (no name or sign just a plain door in a random building) and it was a bit of a hotspot when I was there. It was the first time ANYWHERE that I thought I might be the only american in the place. Joe’s bar is a relaxing pub near the castle where you can get the orginal budvar and draws a backpacker crowd. The DAHAB is one of my favorite places. Its an awesomely laid back turkish hookah lounge not far from Roxy that has great great food and atmosphere. I used to go there every morning to nurse my hangover.
Nadrazi – since when does local = non-natives? I know loads of Czechs who live in Prague and who enjoy messing with ignorant tourists. My fiance is English but lived there long enough to be considered Czech. He and his Czech friends would go to the tourist areas, show people around and get free drinks all night
Not a bad gig really, esp. for poor teachers.
How long were you there? You seem to really know the place. I found some fantastic pubs with the help of friends but I’ll be damned if I can remember names or locations. We had far too much of a good time.
What is your favorite spot in CZ?
Mine are Liberec and Hlucin.
He lived there for about 10 years and by the end of his stay all he spoke was Czech, unless he was teaching an ESL class or translating tech manuals into English. When we went back last summer (he has now been away for 4 years, but visits every summer) the Czechs he didn’t know still thought he was a Czech from Moravia who had found himself an American "bird".
I only made a few stops in the CZ (Plzen, Ceske Budejovice,…) but i spent about 2 plus weeks in Prague. As over touristed and cliche as it’s become, it was still my favorite place in that country. I think you need to give it alot of extra time to find your niche but it’s charm is still very much alive, you just need to know how to find it. For example right off from the Golden alley there’s an long closed path along the mountain side that to get to you have to swing around a metal wall, your feet hanging over the highway, but it takes you on this beautiful walk through the forest below the summer palace. Or on the weekends there are hugh picnics of keilbasa, rye bread and beer in a park high above the Vltava.
As for the nightlife, I can only remember the big places. Most of my favorites I could probably find again, but the names have left me a while ago.
As far as the locals I was just commenting on the HUGE crowds that flood the city in summer and that someone just stopping by for a few days will find it almost impossible to discover the real city or its people.
Hey …
Thanks a lot for the answers…
Looking forward to the trip.
Willi
hey everyone,
Anyone know where the Roxy is located specifically? I have NO IDEA how I stumbled upon it a couple of years ago, and the last time I was in Prague I couldn’t find it.
Thanks
Happy travels
Can the nightlife in prague be compared to lets say another european city or any style of clubbing in general. As you can tell Ive never been to eastern europe let alone an eastern european club and i get the impression their clubs would be considered reserved by maybe american standards like still playing music form the 70 and 80s and decorating clubs with disco balls or am I completely off. How is the nighltife in prague? Please fill me in. Thanks.
