Hey, so I’ve been reading/planning/adding for the last several months for my backpacking trip through Europe this coming summer. I just went to look into ‘booking’ a hostel, I wanted to see how much to anticipate with taxes and fees and I found a question.

I’m not 100% sure this belongs here but hey here goes, availability and costs for a hostel I was looking into in Dublin said “$15.02” I’m assuming this was per bed in a shared room per night, so I went ahead to click “Book Now!” and now it says the per bed cost is ~$34.00, the first page claimed to be displaying prices in USD – what causes the price to more than double?

I am leaving from New York City with $5000 for 33 days

I am leaving from JFK and traveling for 92 days

You just found a bug that I was planning on fixing later this week. The problem is that the price we are given when we get the details for the hostel is the ‘lowest price for the hostel over the entire year’. When you check availability we are able to get the correct price, but I was having problems because the pricing was always off by a few cents because of the exchange rate. So in order to get rid of the couple cent discrepancy, I just put the initial price next to the ‘Book Now’. This turns out to be a problem because since the price I was initially given was the lowest price of the year, it is more often wrong than I initially realized. I am going to change it so that the correct price is shown after the availability has been searched for and at the same time I will change the orange price to be the price that was returned with the availability so I can get around the couple cent difference with the exchange rate, but still show the correct information and have it consistent on the interface.

Sorry for the confusing. This is a problem that I just found and have not had a chance to fix yet. I will get a fix out later this week (hopefully tomorrow because I have found a couple other things I want to fix as well).

Thanks for letting me know. I have been rolling out a lot of features in the past few months and I need to spend a bunch of time on testing. Please let me know if you find anything else. As a one person development team I am often the only person to test this stuff before it goes live and since I wrote it, I can easily miss stuff. Thanks again…

oh ok – see most of the prices were fine, and i have no problem doin the ‘leg work’ of just finding the right booking price — but I thought I’d ask. Smile

Ya sorry about that. I rewrote the hostel functionality yesterday, so you will not have to do that leg work anymore once I get that launched. I have found a couple bugs in the Trip Planner as well, so I am fixing those right now. Once I fix those I will roll out the hostel update that will fix this problem.

Thanks again for the feedback, it is very valuable to me. Smile
