What did you do about a blow dryer, straightener, or curling iron when packpacking?

I didn’t take them. Wear a scarf or put your hair up, its easier than trying to take all of that extra weight that you have to carry.

I don’t even use those things at home. It’s bad for your hair, you don’t want to go bald, do you?

I really hope you’ll listen to what the other girls in here said, because i think that if you bring it, you’ll probably not use it more thanonce or twice, and just regret bringing it.
So, leave all of it at home, because I dont think you’d want to spend all of your time in Europe in front of a mirror!

Hairdryer, curling iron, etc. are a real pain so avoid if at all possible. Remember, if you find you absolutely, positively can’t live without something you can ALWAYS buy it in Europe.

Well, I guess U can always use a cap, bandana or something similar, and if it bother anyway, maybe u can cut it a little shorter, it’ll grow again, so don’t worry about it….

Depends how long you’re travelling for. I had a hairdryer and I really didn’t use it all that much. Maybe once every two weeks, if that. No one looks their best when they are backpacking, a scraf around your head is the best. I always had my hair in a ponytail to keep in out of my face. And really, leave the hairdryer at home, because if your in a hostel in a big city and getting dressed up to go out for a night, there are going to be some girls there that are just away for a break that will have hairdryers…just borrow them. I’m leaving mine at home next time.

My advice…if you are going in the summer to a warm climate, skip the hairdyer. You won’t need it, your hair will dry quickly. However, if you are going to a cold or rainy climate (regardless of the season), take the hairdryer, you will appreciate it. I went to Ireland last summer and it rained everyday, and I was glad to have the dryer to use on my hair, and on my clothes, after getting caught in a downpour!

I’ve found that many places have these hand-drying hot air machines in the toilets. They work just fine – just stick your head under one of those. Some even have a moveable little shield so you can direct the airflow up instead of down.

I agree that you probably won’t need it, but if you take it…just remember to take the proper electrical converter(s) for whatever country you’ll be visiting.

Not just ‘converter’ but transformer. You can get the plug to fit but if the dryer is 110v and the current is 220v, blooey. (Is that a word?) My wife did that years ago in Spain.

And a hair dryer takes a lot of current (800-1000 watts I think) so you would need a BIG transformer. Leave the stuff at home.

Dont bring it. i know that it sucks, but you just have to learn to live without it. its to big of a pain in the ass, plus it probably wont end up working. i understand your concern about wet hair, but i just didnt wash it everyday. this sounds weird, but if it gets greasy, you can put baby powder in your hair. it sucks up the grease and leaves it smelling clean. i have blonde hair so i dont know if it shows up in dark hair.

Leave it at home. I agree with everyone here.

I use mine daily at home and wouldn’t dream of going out without blowdrying my hair. But travelling, it’s just a waste of space in a backpack.

First of all, the voltage converters are heavy and never fit in plugs properly, causing it to fall out of the wall, possible overheating and even fires when you use the equipment.

Secondly, they’re heavy, bulky, and totally unnecessary.

Just let your hair air-dry. Put it under a bandanna or hat if necessary. But nobody cares on the road. It’s like wrinkles in your clothes – just a part of travel.
