Quickest, Cheapest way to get from Berlin to Prague?
Thu, 08/18/2011 - 09:05
Hi! I am traveling throughout Europe in a few weeks now, and I still haven’t figured out the quickest (and/or least expensive) way to get from Berlin to Prague, my last leg of the trip. I’m traveling this leg on October 25th, and I’d like to make the trip as short as possible so I have more time to spend in Prague before I fly back home.
Any suggestions?
I’ve looked into flights, as I’m flying all other legs, but none seem to be direct/inexpensive. I’ve checked out the Bahn website already, it’s looking like around 4 hours 40 minutes for 54 euros, which isn’t bad, but I’ve heard a bus may actually be cheaper AND possibly faster? Does anyone know of a reliable bus line? I’m a little intimidated as I’ve never been to Europe before. HELP!
Try www.eurolines.com for bus schedules.
Fastest train is 4 hours 40 minutes. I doubt the bus will be enough faster to make up for the discomfort. Be sure to check the location of the bus terminals. They will probably be right next to the train stations, but may be somewhere less convenient which will negate any time savings.

www.orangeways.hu
Both of these companies offer bus tickets for about 25-30 EUR. Orangeways has one and StudentAgency two buses per day.
If you know your date, you should try and buy a 29-euro special from Berlin to Prague in advance at the Deutsche Bahn ( http://www.bahn.de/p… ), as the trains depart from Berlin to Prague in bi-hourly intervals.
If you have any questions about Prague or Czech and Slovak republics, ask me.
If you only want to search train or bus connection within Czech&Slovakia and/or to neighboring countries, use www.cp.sk or www.idos.cz search engines. For domestic transport, they also show prices.
Thank you OLD LADY and PAPYR! I am leaning more towards a train anyhow… and Papyr, I don’t see anything on the BAHN website about the 29 euro special! That sounds very enticing, is it for the 4 hour 40 minute train? It looks like some trains take a lot longer… Let me know how I can find that special!
http://reiseauskunft…? is the direct link to the English query page. Special fares do show for the EC trains (4 hour, 40 minute routing) on October 25th in the “savings fares” column.
Thank you OLDLADY- but, I’m still not seeing the 29 euro special that PAPYR wrote of. 59 euros is the cheapest that I see. Did you see any differently?
nevermind! i think i found it!
If, for some particular trains, you don’t see the 29 euro special, then these seats are already sold out for this particular train. That’s why I advise to buy quickly
