Renting a car for 3 months
Mon, 08/17/2009 - 11:22
hey i was wondering if anyone knows any good independant car rental companies that provide cheap rates for long term rentals. im looking for a car to travel around europe in next summer and trying to get an idea of prices. i noticed when i was interrailing last year that quite a number of people were doing this and it seems like a good idea. if anyone could help me i would be reeeeall grateful. thankss
http://www.eurotrip…. Don posted some helpful information about car rental and leasing in this old post.
http://www.renaultus…
If you intened to rent a car for longer than 3 weeks you should lease. I use Renault everytime I go. You get brand new car right off the assembly line, you pay no Value Added Tax (which is one of those hidden costs with rental cars and can equal up to 20% of the cost). Also Renault is a big seller across europe with lots of dealers and affiliated garages. Any problems they fix everything no questions asked. Also with a brand new car you are less likley to run into major problems (i.e. no one has been using it as a rental and driven it into the ground). Only down side is you have to make sure you give the car its first oil change (which means spending a morning in a garage – longer if you do it in Spain) and pay for it up front (you’ll be reimbursed when you return the car with receipt for the oil change).

i think the reanault think looks wicked… only problem is that i live in the UK, and if im not mistaken, your permanent address has to be outside of the EU for you to be able to do it. i think…
I think you are right…deal only applies to non EU residents. Saving the VAT is a major bonus for us colonials. Why not take your own car?

i dont think mummy and daddy would let me.
ahh im sure ill be able to find something… thanks so much for the help though
Go through any of the major car rental companies…google “car rental codes”, book online and enter code and see how much it saves you. I rented a car using a code off the internet and it saved me 60% off the cost (turned out the code was a corporate account for large international company – I guess they negotiated a good rate for their employees). No one asked for I.D. at the rental place (i.e. to confirm that I worked for that company). By booking online most of the paperwork is done when you get there so they don’t bother asking questions I guess.
