Rome to Barcelona
Sun, 05/17/2009 - 12:50
All,
Would it be more advisable to take a flight from Rome to Barcelona or a ferry? We will have a eurrail pass… I’m assuming we could use the ferry as one of our “travel days.”
Obviously, we would like it to be as cheap as possible, and a ferry seems like it would be a little more “fun,” especially overnight. Any experience with this?
Any input would be appreciated. Cheers!
I am leaving from AUS with $4000 for 34 days

I would fly; that ferry ride is 19 hours. Flights on Vueling are 50 euros (Click Air flies the route but it’s actually on Vueling aircraft at the same price, so don’t bother searching Click Air). Ryanair flies the route for as low as 26 euros, but doesn’t fly to Barcelona itself, so tack on extra time to get to Barcelona from Girona if you go that route.
But by all means if you want a bit of fun and make a journey out of it, the ferry would be the way to do it. 19 hours is a full day (nearly the same time as it takes to get over here from Aust) but you can have a bag full of fun on it. I’m not too sure how expensive the ferry would be though, probably about the same as the flight.
But I’ve always been under the impression of its not the destination its the journey and if your more after than, then go the ferry. If you want a quick, cheap way then fly.
