yea, I don’t understand how they do it, I flew from London to Dublin for less than 1 pound.  I’ve flown on them a few times, everytime the flight has been late but its unbelievably cheap.

The only problem with flying into a city instead of taking a train is that flying puts you 30 miles or so still out of town and its isn’t cheap to make that last little distance. A train will take you to the very heart of the city.

I won’t dispute your point that Ryan Air is cheap. For those who haven’t flow with them, though, you should be aware that the final cost will be higher than, say, 1 euro. You’ll be charged a fee for buying a ticket with a credit card, and you’ll have to pay taxes. Be very sure to read the fine print about luggage weight restrictions, because there are very high fees associated with any excess weight (and they’re enforced!). Finally, as has already been said, look at the costs associated with bus trips from remote airports (both money and your time).
In spite of these cautions, there’s no doubt that Ryan Air led the way in Europe to provide low-cost air travel. In the past, intra-Europe air travel was terribly expensive.

I’ve flown Ryanair once from Paris to Rome. Let me preface this by saying, I’m a VERY nervous flyer…but I wouldn’t do it again. The flight was fine, but you definitely get what you pay for. The flights are cheaper b/c they generally go to out of the way airports. First of all, the travel time from Paris to Beauvais (you have to take a Ryanair Bus) is a good 1.5 hours and I think cost 15 Euro. There are major baggage weight restrictions, if you go over you pay $$$. Then we took another bus in Rome to Termini Station, then the metro to our hotel. Overall it was about 6 or 7 hours, only 1.5 of those flying.

Here’s the nervous flyer part…
The airport in Paris was basically a huge tent. Everytime a plane would come in the “walls” would go wild. And it was kind of dirty. When our flight came in from Rome, they shuffled the incoming passengers off the front exit and the outgoing passengers (us) through the back at the same time. It’s NOT like a regular airport. I thought they’d at least check the plane before we took off, but nope. As soon as we sat down we were off. The plane was dirty, they didn’t clean up from the first passengers, and the flight attendants looked very unkept. I never realized how much this stuff mattered until I was in the situation. Like I said, I’m sure there was nothing “wrong” with the plane, but as a nervous flyer I just didn’t feel very safe. I swore next time I’d take a train – no more Ryanair for me.

Overall, it’s a great cheap option, but you have to weigh the pros and cons.
