S E Asia - rainy season
Wed, 02/09/2005 - 11:38
Hi,
Has anyone travelled in Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia during rainy season? Would you recommend it or is it worth waiting to go a few months later?
Thanks
Actually rainy season in these places most likely means there is a heavey rain for an hour during the day. Actually, this is high season for mass tourism. I would not recommend to postpone your trip for climate reasons. And surely don’t go in the dry season – the vegetation is almost dead and whole scenery looks like a desert.
Spot on Andrew.
Lucky if it gets that hour a day, I was in Bangkok for the r season and it rained a few times for about ten minutes each.
Cooled everything down too, so it wasn’t so hot. Been in Viet Nam for it too, never had a problem.
Less tourists and cheaper prices as well.
Good to know… I was planning on taking the same trip during the rainy season this summer; I was not going to let the rain stop me, but I was not sure just how bad it would be.
Agree with above.
Aside from an occasional rainburst, when I was at Halong Bay, we had to leave early because there were typhoon warnings. I’ve been to SE Asia a handfull of times, always during rainy season, with no disastrous outcomes.
Angkor Wat in September was so lush and beautiful; I think it might not have been as spectacular during dry season.
Compared to here (Japan) where it will rain for two or three days straight during rainy season it is positively delightful down there!
