safe after drinking
Tue, 12/30/2008 - 15:45
Me and my friends are planning a trip this summer to go throughout Europe to see how the other side of the world parties. In Europe will i have to worry about getting into serious danger or trouble (i.e. being assaulted or robbed at gun point) if i were completely drunk stumbling back to my hostel ?
I am leaving from chicago with $1000 for 36 days
Madrid, Segovia

Probably not unless you go to a bad part of town. Chances are you’ll be with a group after you meet some people at the hostel so you won’t be alone. Use common sense and you should be okay. If you want to save money, stay home and get stumbling drunk. If you’re going to pay that much for a ticket, I’d want to know a little more about what’s going on while I’m there.
Eat the food, use the wrong verbs, and end up getting charged double.
You are confusing europe for a much more dangerous place where its legal for all citizens to carry guns.

McButta: as MB noted, just practice common sense, travel in groups, and do go down a deserted dimly-lit alley, or anything like that. You don’t have to fear the worst, but you should exercise normal and sensible precautions. IMO, “getting drunk at home” doesn’t compare to going out and experiencing fun nightlife. Keep in mind many public transport systems either shut down or severely reduce service after about 1am or 2am, depending on the city, and some hostels have a curfew. Whatever city you’re in, inform yourself on these things, so you don’t find yourself stranded at 4AM looking for a cab.

Public transport will start running again around 6 or 8am, so you could just stay out partying until then, and it wouldnt be dark anymore, so all of the gunmen should be gone.
Watch out for prostitutes though, if its been a slow night they might be aggressive for clients at those hours. And if it hasn’t been a slow night, then you definitely want to avoid them.
More drunken tourists…just what Europe needs more of. Here’s some advice, Europeans party the same as everybody, they just do it in a different language. Having got that off my chest, don’t get drunk in Switzerland cuz they will throw you ass in jail and give you a ticket.

Speaking from experience there finn?

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain
Does Switzerland still have that park where you can legally do drugs? Not for me, just wondering.
