What is the best way to get from Salzburg to Hallstadt? The Die
Bahn site makes what looks like it should be a short trip into a long trip. I’d prefer train or possibly bus.

Hallstadt to Vienna (our next leg) also seems to take quite a while.

Do you mean Hallstatt, Austria (the UNESCO World Heritage lake town roughly 90 KM from Salzburg) or Hallstadt, Germany?

Hallstatt is much faster and easier for both trips. 1 connection each way and about 2 1/2 hours Salzburg to Hallstatt and 4 hours Hallstatt to Vienna. The public bus options also require a connection. There are shuttle bus and private car options from Salzburg. This site indicates train is easiest but not necessarily fastest http://suite101.com/…

I could not find any bus options to Hallstadt, Germany and the train rides are pretty ugly — long and complicated.

Yes, I meant Hallstatt Austria. My spelling is getting worse as I age. Both the German and Austrian rail sites routed me through Munich and Nurmberg. The Austrian bus site routed me the same way, on trains.

Thanks for the link. It should be handy.

I’ve seen the town in Austria spelled both ways, but bahn.de and the Austrian rail website both use “tt” as opposed to “dt.”. Unfortunately, they start leading you to the German city (because it’s first alphabetically) as soon as you type in “Hallst…” but if you continue on typing in “Hallstatt” either will get you to the right city so you’re not going deep into Germany.
