Hi,

I’m in need of some suggestions for two days (three nights with the day of arrival) in Salzburg, Austria. I’m traveling with my parents (who are in their late 60’s) and the only must-do activity so far is the Sound of Music tour since my mother is a big fan. Other than that, I’m looking for suggestions on the attractions in Salzburg for the remaining time. I’ve done some searching and have one or two attractions in mind, including the Hohensalzburg fortress, Hellbrunn gardens and the Mirabell gardens. Anything else we should consider? My parents won’t be able to do any strenuous hikes or uphill climbs so please suggest us some more places we could accommodate.

Also, I’m waiting for someone to give me some ideas on the following thread.

Thanks.

Hohensalzburg palace/ fortress is reachable by cable car, so not a hiking issue. The views are great so you may want to spend quite a bit of time there.

Wander Getreidegasse, a narrow, charming street with gilded and iron trade signs — it’s a little touisty but the wares are somewhat more authentic than the made in China stuff. Mozart’s birthplace is #9 Getreidegasse and there is another Mozart house near the main square. The Cathedral will probably be on the Sound of Music tour, but you may want to revisit.

We enjoyed just sitting in the many outdoor cafes — people watching and enjoying coffee, chocolate and pastries. It would be easy to spend a couple of hours or more that way.

There is a lot of nice scenery around Salzburg. If you have time, it might be interesting to day trip to Hallstatt (about two hours by train) for lovely lake scenery. I would try to catch some musical performances in Salzburg.

Thanks OL and CB,

I like the idea of having a leisurely stroll around the city. So, I’ll keep your suggestions in mind. About Hallstatt, yes I saw some clips on that…seems really beautiful. I guess I’ll have to allocate a better part of a day for that detour, isn’t it? Anyway, I’d keep that in mind. Thanks again.
