Schengen Visa Question
Tue, 12/03/2013 - 20:39
Hello,
I have a quick question about extended travel. I’m from the States and I am planning a graduation present for myself: a 6 month backpacking trip around Europe.
Would I need to get a visa for every country after the 90 “free” travel time expires?
I am leaving from Minneapolis, MN with $15000 for 175 days
London, Bristol, Cardiff, Liverpool, Dublin, Glasgow, Edinburgh, London, Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm, Helsinki, Saint-Petersburg, Moscow, Minsk, Kiev, Oświęcim, Prague, Dresden, Berlin, Munich, Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest, Bucharest, Istanbul, Athens, Rome, Barcelona, Madrid, Lisbon

They are not authorative, bus often have links to places that are. You apparently have to get long term visa(s) from one or more members. A long term visa enables you to spend 90 days in other member states, and the balance of your time in the issuing state. It sounds like you have a lot of planning to do with respect to visas.
Madrid, Toledo
Dublin, Dingle, Dublin
Bruges, Ardennes, Bastogne, Brussels
London
Charleville-Mézières, Reims
You may be able to work out the Schengen issues by putting UK at one end of your trip and other non-member nations at the other end, thus only spending 90 days in Schengen countries. In addition to the Schengen issue I think you will need visas arranged in advance for Russia and Belarus. Turkey may also require a visa, but you can purchase that when you arrive in Turkey — check price and requirements in advance as US citizens used to need the exact amount in cash — US dollars (crisp bills only).
