School Trip to Europe: Need Help
Sat, 09/27/2008 - 22:10
I am a freshman at my high school and there is a trip to Europe the summer after my sophomore year and I have to sign up soon or the spots will fill up. I want to know if this trip is worth it, from what I have read people have seen more places for more time at the same price. If anyone could advise me on whether I should go on this trip or save up and backpack through Europe after high school, it would be greatly appreciated! Oh and sleeping on trains and at hostels doesn’t bother me.
Here is the trip itinerary: Itinerary.rtf
My motto is “take advantage of every opportunity to travel.” I would go on your school trip. You’ll still have a couple of years to save up for a trip after high school.
Go for it. I’m kicking myself for missing out on the Japanese trip. There were homestays on that trip as well, so I’d have been able to experience the place better too…

I’m really glad i got the opportunity to travel with my school before I planned my own journey. It really helps you get an idea of what countries you’d like to go to, and a grasp on traveling in different countries. I’d definitely recommend taking the chance. Traveling is such a unique opportunity, and every time you travel, it’s a different experience. Take that opportunity! you’ll still want to go back!

I think i am going to look at my funds and see whether I can do both, but I think it’s going to be one or the other. The trip is $3600 and includes breakfast, dinner, admissions. lodging, and airfare. What do you reccomend for trying to find out how much it would cost to stay for a month or more in Europe? I don’t mind the idea of sleeping on trains and cooking my own food.
For own your own travel, I would plan on airline ticket ($700 to $1,200) + city to city transportation (roughly $600) + $ 80 to 90 a day for food, hostels, admission fees, local transportation, laundry, misc. That adds up to about $4,300 for 30 days, $3,500 for 21 days.
I would opt for your school trip — why wait 4 years? If you have a good time you will find a way to get back.
Just like oldlady said, you will find a way back if you have a good time.
I went to europe the summer going into my senior year of high school, and i had such a good time, i held a job during my senior year and that summer to pay for a trip after my freshman year of college. And I’m already planning my next one. You will find your way back.
