Segovia - Full of History
City: Segovia, Spain
Address & Details:
N40.94 E4.11. North West of Madrid. Just take a daily train to Segovia from the central station.
Segovia has got to be one of the most romantic cities in all of Spain or Europe. The history, food, culture, music and theater are overflowing here. This is truly an amazing place to see.
At first the Roman aqueduct seems like another old bridge. But it is not. The immense size, intricate design and monumental dimensions leave you in awe. The closer you get to the aqueduct the more insignificant many modern structures seem today. TO know that people with simple tools built this huge structure over 2000 years ago is astonishing.
After the Aqueduct, go take a look at the cathedral. Many people say that once you’ve seen one cathedral you’ve seen them all. This is not true about this one. Like the aqueduct this is an amazing structure as well. Absolutely beautiful with all its columns, stained glass and wood work. Don’t miss this.
And last but not least, the Alcazar (which means castle). There is not a person in North America that has not seen this castle before because it looks so much like Walt Disney’s castle. This is an amazing castle that is quiet unique. Don’t be intimidated by the height of the tower and do climb it. It is a long, slow and cramped walk but the view is worth it.
Please don’t forget to see this great city as a side trip if you are ever in Madrid.
