Shipping rates

I want to be able to buy things while in Europe, but I don’t want to have to carry it all over the continent. I hear that shipping rates are affordable, but I was wondering if I should carry a load of things around before visiting a post office, or if it’s so inexpensive that I can ship a couple of things at a time. I really don’t know how much room I’m going to have in my pack and carrying things around that are valuable makes me a little nervous. Any advice?
It really is much more costly to ship anything from W. Europe to the USA than vice-versa. As in astronomical. Maybe the UK is cheaper. Don’t know.
Shipping CAN be expensive, but if you ship stuff ground (i.e. if you’re in no hurry to receive it) it might be better. Make sure to buy insurance for any valuables you plan to ship.
What kind of things do you plan to buy? Some more expensive purchases, you can negotiate free shipping to North America. For example, if buying expensive art, often the shops catering to tourists will offer free or reasonable shipping rates because they know most people will want to ship stuff home. Of course, you’re probably overpaying for the item… but hey, that’s what souvenir shopping is all about
I’m just thinking of buying a few small things – shirts and stuff probably. I won’t have money for expensive art, but if the shipping rates are as crazy as you both mentioned, I might just take a lot of pictures and skip a lot of souveniers. Thanks for the input.
Just leave a little space in your pack, if you’re just buying small souvenirs you can just take them with you.
