Hey guys, long time no post but I am still lurking ![]()
I am back on the board for the mo’ to find out your thoughts on Bangkok and Krabi. I will be in Bangkok from April 5th – 10th with a friend’s traditional Thai wedding on the 9th. And in Krabi from the 10th – 17th. Back to Bangkok for the night of the 17th – morning of the 19th.
And to be honest, I am just starting the research on these two places because we just confirmed this morning that we will be going.
Anyway, where do you recommend for cheap lodgings in Bangkok and what are the top 5 things you recommend in and around the city that are MUST sees? The same goes for Krabi.
Off to do a bit o’ the research now, but would much appreciate your thoughts and anyone else’s who happens to read this post.
Thanks, Cheers, Xie Xie and Domo arigato gozaimasu!!!!
PS. I promise to post pics after the trip.

Havn’t been to Krabi.
I love BKK. My first trip I stayed near KSR, and if you want to party, that’s the place. My past two trips I’ve stayed at Suk11 in Sukhumvit, and will probably stay there in the future. (they have a website but I’m too busy to look it up)
As far as sight seeing, there is plenty of the usualy tourist stuff to do, but look out for scams, expecially around the Palace. One of my favorite things to do is to simply ride the Chao Phraya River Express boats. The temples along the river just gleam in the sun—it’s really cool.
Weekend market is overwhelming and recommended. I still haven’t been to the Night Market, and a day trip to Ayutthya (sp?) are on my wish list.
Have a grest trip.
Not till I hear about the wedding!
First things first!
I’m sure you don’t want to hear about my BKK anyhow!
Alas, I have never been to Bangkok, or anywhere else in Thailand.
Hi Guys
Sorry been away trying to earn a few bucks and haven’t had a lot of time to monitor the board.
IMHO, Krabi town is not really worth much time. We go onto AO Nang which is a great base to explore the islands (Phi Phi, Hong, James Bond< Poda etc) Also great kyaking in the mangrove swamps and Railay Beach is very good.
JJ’s does a great english breakfast and shows all the sport – just say hello from me (Imtrav Bob) and you may even get a free beer or shot! Bernies is the home off all you can eat BBQ for 190 THB (100 THB for vegetarians) Losr Fisherman’s Bar – perfect for the picture postcard sunsets (and a cocktail or two)
Bangkok – not my favourite big city but I do have a good time here. I stay away from Khao San Road. Usually, Baghdad Cafe for Shisha and a beer, nextdoor is Adhere Blues Bar, across the road is Mama’s – some of the best Thai foor in Bangkok – all on Samsen Road (Soi 2). Sorry, Sukhumvit has too many foreigners for me.
Also in Soi two is a great vegetarian cafe called the Corner Cafe – but it is due to close some time this year as they redevelop the building.
Redkat, I will be back in Yangshuo China on Sunday for about a week. I am then down to head to Urumqui and onto Kashkar for a week or two – Bloody cold I believe, but thats where the boss is sending me!!
Hope this helps
Zaijian
Nice to hear you are all still travelling!!!
Hey Tas,
Email me when you have time. I don’t have your email addy anymore and clicking on your name doesn’t work here anymore.
Hope all is well with you!
Krabi province is beautiful with all those stunning stone formations.
If you’d like to get into climbing it’s a great place to learn.
Everyone gravitates towards Ao Nang. Rai Ley beach, just around the corner is sheer paradise, if a little too busy. Smaller quieter islands such as Chicken Island are a short long tail boat ride away.
I have loads of photos hereThailand & Cambodia travelogue
