SkyAuction.com
Wed, 12/26/2007 - 16:37
Just stumbled upon that site and I was wondering if anyone here was familiar with it. If you win an auction with a bid of say $175 and they tell you the taxes are $302 per person roundtrip then am I really looking at a total of $477 or are there a bunch of hidden fees built in afterwords?
Thanks!

Anyone? This site looks like it has some great deals, is it really a scam?
Sky Auction is not a scam. I havent personally used it, but have a friend who has. Just be sure to READ everything, all the fine print. KNOW what you are bidding on. Some things are deals, some are not.
Again….be really sure to read the entire auction page and UNDERSTAND what you are bidding on.
My friend has used it for trips to St Martin in the Carribean.
I’ve never booked through Skyauction, but have been aware of them since they started maybe 5 years ago. Their first year had some really good bargains that got posted on our forums here, with all of the pros and cons, etc. I don’t know if policies have since changed, but the main caveat was all of the taxes. Novice travellers were surprised that taxes added $80 to $100 to N. America-Europe roundtrip flights. Currently, fuel surcharges are adding (another) $120 to $180 (average) per round trip flight, and UK flight taxes are about $20 higher since early 2007.
lus www.farecompare.com for price trends on a route, before bidding with Skyauction.
I don’t know if Skyauction add another booking fee, but I agree with the other response—shop around—because many “great deals!” people post with Priceline and Skyauction really aren’t so “great” if they only knew what was already available. I would try www.bookingbuddy.com for a quick and thorough blitz of prices,
Sounds good, thanks for the feedback!!
