SMS setting in Italy
Mon, 09/27/2004 - 17:37
if I post on wrong section. sorry about this. cos I am not sure where can I ask this question.
first of all I am in italy now with my mobile from canada. I can receive sms from my friend who is in canada. However, I can’t send it out. I think I ened to change some setting in my mobile to do this. such as the message centre number or so.. anything can help me on this? thank you.
I’m surprised your able to recieve it without being on a italian network. What type of phone do you have? You probably need to get a sim card from an italian mobile company.

Very strange. Can you call locally? You must obviously have A GSM or Tri-band phone, as there is some GSM coverage in Canada. If you don’t, your phone won’t work and the message is likely an old one. Toggle to the feature that allows you to select a provider where you are. If it is blank, then you have no access (but how could you receive an SMS, are you sure it’s not old?). If it shows local provider(s), select different ones and try again. Else, go on the internet and download the manual for your phone. I have never heard of changing settings, but perhaps if it’s a tri-band you have to.
my phone is a triband phone so I am ok to get call or make call
right now I can receive sms and send too
as the instruction say I need to change I Wind as my network but it is not work I can only receive sms only but then I change my network to TIM IT work prefectly. I can send sms to my friend in canada now. so I still keep talking with them when I am lining up on the Uffizi Gallery today haa haa
Glad to hear it, but i am sort of surprised that there are telecoms in France that don’t provide SMS service. I’d be careful how you use the phone if your chip is from a Canadian Telecom. The roaming charges will be high.
My experience is that the TIM card can be used in any physical location in Italy whereas the the WIND card that I used did not work in some remote spots.
