I am planning on flying to Peru in January and staying for about a month. I may visit neighboring countries, and would like to visit a friend in Colombia if I have the time and money. Just wodering if anyone could offer some advice, insights, or experiences on Peru, or any other nearby South American countries, like Ecuador, Colombia, Argentina, etc.

If you’re flying into Lima, I’d consider spending all of it in Peru. Last year I spent 3 1/2 weeks there (including the Inca Trail) and didn’t come close to exploring the entire country.

Trip highlights for us were visiting Lake Titicaca and doing a homestay on Amantani Island and spending a couple of days at a jungle lodge near the Bolivian border. Inca Trail and Macchu Picchu were OK.
