So...who survived?
Fri, 10/05/2007 - 10:34
Ok so my friends and i all survived. It was even better than i could have expected. We gave it our best shot, we were in munich for 6 days and were at the fest all 6 days. I just wanted to thank everyone for all the info….especially Sun. There is no possible way to convey the energy in schottenhammel or hofbrau when “summer of 69” comes on. It was simply amazing. I met a bunch of cool people. Without trying to be too dramatic i will say for my first trip to europe, it was a life changing experience. Even past all the beer and partying, i learned there is much more i need to experience. Mark my words we will be back next year!
glad to hear it man!!!!! it sounds like you get it….. next year is an absolute for me as well, i’m actually heading to interlaken for a few nights before the wiesn…. i wish i was still there……… PROST!!!!!
agreed, my buddies and i will probably drop it down to 3 or 4 days at the fest and 3 days somewhere else…maybe london or dublin.
This was perhaps the greatest Weis’N ever! The Documentary went well, and we had good weather half the time… PROSIT!
MunichBeerBoy
We were fortunate with the weather, only rained the first day we were there. Sun, you need to post the info if they ever air that documentary.
Yeah that was seriously the best experience of my whole life thus far lol. I am definitely going back next year. I have to build up my tollerance though i must say lol. Here i thought i was a big drinker until I got to the HB tent lol…. it’s not that you’re drinking liters at a time….it’s the % alcohol content which is higher which makes it more difficult.
We met these other americans at our table and it was their first night there. I kept telling them to slow down lol they were drinking and teaching europeans to say “get money, f* bitches” lol.. .it was good times.
I have been informed it will take 6 to 8 weeks to complete and package, etc. I will keep ya’ll posted for sure!
MunichBeerBoy
Which tents did you guys key on for the documentary?
As an aside, i have informed my buddy just now that we will be there for the tapping next year. I will certainly catch u next year sun….assuming your going of course.
on a sadder note……347 days 15 hrs 11mins…..bleh! I dont even want to imagine how badly the dollar will be getting smacked by the Euro next year!
The guys from Liquid Vision filmed in about 6 or 7 zelten. However, I was maily in the Hippodrom for the interview, etc. We also hung-out at the Lowenbrau for an hour or two on 9/26/07…

We got home last night exhausted but accomplished!!! We had a great 3 days!!! Got to meet lots of cool people from around the world and flirted with pretty girls!! Can’t wait to go back next year!!!!
Oktoberfest was a blast. I spent one day in Haufbrau and one day in the Augustiner tent. HB was way more fun but the Augustiner was better beer.
FYI, I also went to the Cannstatter Volksfest in Stuttgart and it was amazing, I had way more fun there than at Oktoberfest. The carnival was huge and it was a lot younger crowd with a lot fewer tourists.
I am so excited reading all these reviews! I think my friends and I are going to finally make it out there next year! #1 recommendation for first-timers at Oktoberfest???
Um okay sorry, I just say the Oktoberfest for beginners thread. I’ll take a look at that first
I attended that Festival im Stuttgart back in 1985 & 86 as well… Fun ! ! !
MunichBeerBoy
Dare i say…..337 days 19 hours 29 mins?
Only 324 days to go to Weis’N 2008 !
I am all booked-up with an awards points FREE room at the Sheraton Four Points, and will get a FF Miles FREE flight in a few months. Just need to bring a few hundred EURO’s for beer… My group will be there from: 9/23 thru 9/28/08.
MunichBeerBoy
You’re booked already? Thats simple amazing! Didn’t even know you could make reservations this soon. I will probably start looking over the next couple of months.
Yessir. I normally do not book until beween Feb. & April 1st. However, many of the hotels in Munchen start taking reservations 11 months in advance. Also, I saw this particular hotel (via SPG.com) had two awards-points (free) rooms to offer only, so I had to jump on it. I knew my friends from here in North Fla. would be getting there the first Weds. or Thur. of the fest, so I booked in that time frame. I can get the flight in a few months. I am lucky enough to have enough FF Miles for a freebie on US Airways, Delta, or Lufthansa.

You’re going to miss the tapping this year? Btw, i will need to bug you for another hotel recommendation at some point. We will try to find somthing a little cheaper than the Jaedermann @209Euro/night. Tough part is finding a room to sleep 3. Are all hotels in Munich so tight on who comes and goes from the room? (Jaedermann ran a tight ship). Could we get a room for two and just sneak the third in at a larger hotel?
The Jedermann is reasonable – if you stay in the old portion of the hotel. You would then have to get single, and/or a double room without WC & Shower (shared in hallway), it’s about half that price for 3 people. The tripple zimmer with WC and shower is a tad expensive, but average for the fest. Munchen Hotel owners up everything 33 to 40% in Sept. & early Oct., so you just have to “MAN-UP” and spend the dough sir! That being said, I will see what I can do. I may be able to come up with something for about 60 EUR per night, per person… (180 EUR) Hey, we saw this coming, unfortunately. The USD is Shize vs. the EURO… The only reason I get to go very cheaply in 2008 is simple… I have spent a TON of cash over the years on hotels and airfare, so I can finally cash-in points a bit… My friends are staying at the Pension Seibel. I think you could get a Double Zimmer there for about 130 EUR.. Yes, the Jedermann has to do that during the fest. Many have tried to take advantage of Hotel owners over the years… The older rooms are not bad, and the showers are decent – even though you would have to share with other on your floor.
MunichBeerBoy
It’s okay. I saw the tapping and opening parade in 2000 & 2006. My friends from North Fla. always stay at the Seibel, go as a group of about 10 to 12 peopls, and they always arrive the first Thursday of the fest. So, I will get there on Weds.
MunichBeerBoy
we will probably be there for only 3-4 days next year and spend a couple days somewhere else. Should lessen the pricey hotel hit a bit. Don’t get me wrong, even at twice the cost the trip is worth it!
Thats sweet about the free flight/hotel….but like u said, you have spent your share over the years.
I certainly have. I would suggest just 3 to 4 days in Munchen, then a few days in a former Eastern Bloc country like Czech Republik, Lithiuania, or Poland. The USD goes further there, and they are beautiful places. Great beer & gorgeous ladies in Krakow!
MunichBeerBoy
we are thinking about Prague…..
Question is…..what’s the best way to get from one place to another? Flight? Train?
The night train to Prague from the Munchen Hbf is 6 or 7 hrs, not too expensive, and I would recommend a sleeper car. You kill 2 birds with one stone this way. Simply board the approx. 2300 hrs train, drink a few beers, sleep 5 hrs, wake-up in Praha..
MunichBeerBoy
sounds like a plan. Thanks sun!
In the immortal words of Peter Graves (Airplane)…
G: “Joey, you ever been in a cockpit before?”
G: “Ya ever seen a grown man naked?”

Kid: “No sir, I’ve never been in a plane before”

Absolutely a huge thanks to Sunskin for being so generously Vocal on what expect. I am the Single Black American guy who was basically nervous about the whole thing even if i travel the world alone in the past. My anticipation of Oktoberfest met satisfaction and then some. Never have i experienced a more relaxed, social, multi Cultural mix of people at such vast numbers. You know you’re getting there when you realize you’ve introduced yourself to that same drunkie next to you like 3-4 times in 15 minutes. And you know You’re doing better than some when you actually walk passed that hill behind the hofbrau where so many folks couldnt do a thing but lay down. I watched a guy pee over his buddy who was on the ground and the guy being peed on never budged. I didnt think it was funny until i sobered up next day.
I actually maximzed my time on that trip and did Zurich, and Prague and then back to Oktoberfest for the last 3 days where beer drinkers actually cried to the last song waving a candle. I like beer but im not that emotionally attached to it. Sorry.
Nothing wild, nothing out of the odinary that i noticed even while i hung out at the hofbrau most of the time except forr an Italian guy who got up on stage and took his pants down and literally wiggled his Italian hot dog while the cround anxiously took pictures. I turned the other way, and the last time i saw hime he was vigorously dumped outside by Security. Otherwise everything was normal.
I challenge anyone planning to go to Oktoberfest alone it doesnt matter who you are or what you look like you have just made yourself into a huge multi-cultural mess with friendly people that will hug you more than you ever got hugged in Church.
If i have it my way i will not miss next year and as of now there is not stopping me.
Laurennicole, that ebay Bavarian dress did the trick and won you cool Bavarian points.. way to go.
GDrinkh20 See me for more details on the HOstel i stayed. 10 min Walk from the Tents great price, clean, laundry, breakfast etc.. was nice.
I was going to be looking for a hotel but i could be swayed if a hostel was cheap enough. How much did it run you?
New website is finally up & operational:

My Hostel Ran me a cool 46 Euros ofcours i was alone. The Laundry service was a trip though. All in German and not like our American system att all. 5 bucks and if you for any reason open the dryer during cycle there goes your 5 bucks. That thing will not continue to dry unless you feed it again. Showers were nice and clean.
Glenn E. – I figured you were the infamous ILANDZMAN!

Stop counting the days, instead make the days count.
Yes this is the Islandzman himself. To all you Oktoberfest folks going this year Have one on me. Oktoberfest can almost be considered a religeous activity so cool, so peaceful, so awesome.
Will you be out there this year?
GE: GuyDrink will be there with us!
