I flew out of Schiphol Airport in Holland in June to return home. As usual, I had some leftover pocket change — about 12 guilders — which I could either spend or give away. I bought some hazelnut cookies and some Droste chocolates (which melted in my pack while driving to my home from the airport in California after a stop for lunch at Chevy’s) in an airport shop.

The resultant mass of chocolate goop was convincing evidence that I had not spent my last guilders very carefully.

Has anyone found some clever things to buy with loose change as you leave a country, either things for yourself or gifts, that are cheap, appreciated, and travel well? I need to have something in mind for my next trip.
