split and hvar croatia

Hi ppl,
does anyone has any tip about those cities? I’m gonna spend a weekend in them and would like to know the cities a bit more. After a search, I could see that they are very frequented in the summer, but dunno if it’s the same in the end of September. Any of u have been there?
I am leaving from Brasilia with $3000 for 21 days
Amsterdam, Berlin, Kraków, Budapest, Prague, Amsterdam

I have budgeted $2500 for 11 days

Been to both. Split is fine for a day (or half day) but I wouldn’t spend more than a night there. Hvar, on the other hand, is wonderful. Small island but great atmosphere, beaches (though rocky), and the main square is really lively at night. Food was pricey, but they have a big supermarket to get cheap food from. I was there in mid August, so not sure how it would be in Sept. The big nightspot was a bar called Carpe Diem- pricey drinks, but always packed with young people. After it closes at about 1:30 am, they put you on a water taxi to a little unhabited island a few minutes away, where a DJ plays until 6 am. Didn’t partake in this myself, but heard from multiple people it was a lot of fun. We only had 2 days (actually really only 1.5 days, 2 nights) and wished for more time.
Madrid, Barcelona, Athens, Santorini, Rome, Sorrento, Florence, Cinque Terre, Nice, Lyon, Paris, Zagreb, Grabovac (Plitvice), Split, Dubrovnik, London
We were in Split in mid-September. It was still fairly crowded with tourists in the center of town, but quiet in the more remote neighborhoods. We were approached by folks with rooms or apartments to rent out, so you might be able to find a pretty cheap place to stay. While it still warm enough for some beach time, it wasn’t really “beach weather” for those of us who think beach weather is 85 degrees f.
One problem was that the ferry companies switched to winter schedules around the 12th of September which made logistics much harder and might make getting from place to place for a single weekend pretty difficult.
DreamingOfItaly and oldady, thx for your replies. I got a bit worried about those winter schedules… oldalady, when did you go to Hvar? I looked some timetables and it seems to me that the schedule become a bit wider, look: http://www.find-croa…
what do you think?
thx in advance!

You’ve linked to a 2010 schedule… I see from your link that at least some of the ferries from Split to Hvar indicate “only summer.” http://www.jadrolini… Jadrolinija, the biggest ferry company in Croatia, shows at least two ferries a day from Split to Hvar in late September (there’s probably 3 or 4 times that many in summer), so you shouldn’t have any trouble getting to/from Hvar.
