During my fall Europe trip, I am hoping to fly from Athens or Rome to Crete. Considering that I am traveling in the cooler season, I will probably have a hard time packing in a carry-on size bag for my whole 2 month trip. My question is, if I flew roundtrip Rome or Athens to Crete, adn back, would it be possible to store my larger pack or suitcase in one of these cities and only take a small bag for my few days in crete, therefor avoiding checking a bag on the crete flight? I know that there are lockers in train stations and such, but do the airports have a system like this? If so, is the space large enough to fit a bigger bag? Is it safe? Just a thought that might make the trip easier on me…

I did the same thing in Spain last fall, leaving my huge suitcase in the Madrid airport and traveling around with a small one. Go to the airport’s website and there should be information about luggage storage.

I’ve rarely seen lockers in the airports, mainly for security reasons. You know how they are if you walk 2 feet away from your luggage. Don’t be surprised if you find no lockers at all in some airports.

Sometimes your hotel or hostel will store a bag for a few days — especially if you’re staying at the same place again later.
