I posted earlier that we are interested in going to Italy and Greece for our honeymoon. In case it is too expensive, can you suggest other possibilites? Here is what is important to us: we want to be able to sit on the beach and relax, yet we also want to do touristy things. I was thinking Canary Islands, any other ideas, or combination of ideas?

Thanks

If money is an issue go to Central America (if you are from N. America). Belize is nice and not too expensive. The tourist attractions in these places lie mainly in the richness of the traditional culture. It’s not exactly the Canary Islands.

Oh yeah – it might help if I told you when we are taking our honeymoon! We are getting married on Sept. 23rd…so the last week in September-the first week in October…

Thanks

To go along with frihed89’s suggestion, my parents went to Belize in October and absolutely loved it. That is a realistic option for you to research.

I would also suggest Central America – should be clearly cheaper than going to Europe.

bride..

you’ve hit it.

the greek islands are ideal for a honeymoon. so is italy – florence, rome and venice are definites. verona’s also nice.

i’m only 22. but when i visited ‘Santorini’, a greek island, the sunsets are just exquisite – a nice honeymoon spot. the hotels are ideal for honeymoons.

i’d definitely choose italy and greece ove anywhere else in europe.

greece for the beach and breakfasts, and italy for the touristy things. i’m not sure about the nice hotels, but generally greece is known to be excellent value for money.

if you find it’s too expensive, i’d go to Prague. you’ll live like a king and queen there (money will never be an issue) and you will never have to worry about cost. you’ll stay in a beautiful hotel and eat well for nothing. look into prague.. i’m not sure how much of a honeymoon spot it would be cause i’ve never been there but i’ve heard amazing things from at least 10 people who thought it was incredible.

if your up for an adventure…Coasta Rica. Its already inexpensive, plus septmeber is the off season(even cheaper) but its still warm/hot and warm water.

Defiantely look into Spain/Portugal – they have some great beaches and plenty of varied, cultural cities to explore! Plus its much cheaper than Italy and Northern Europe!

Also, if Greece/Italy is too expensive but is ideal why not go for a week instead of two weeks? That will definately cut your costs!

One more suggestion:
The areas affected by the Asian Tsunami are going to be MUCH cheaper than normal, obviously. I don’t know about Sri Lanka, but many hotels in Phuket, Thailand and the Maldives are still running and safe. It may be worth looking into.
