For those who know Amsterdam well enough, what is the alleged hype over this place? Can anyone provide a rough estimate on what it might cost, per person, to eat and be merry? General price of a drink? Is the food worth the price? Set menu or al a carte? Must I dress up with a trendy outfit of sorts? Is it insane to go here for New Year’s Eve with a group of six?

It’s not cheap. I’ve been there a couple of times (about 6 I guess) and we seem to average 100 per person (including drinks).
Set menu, usually a choice between vegetarian and non vegetarian.
you eat lying down on mattrasses, massages optional.
6 for NYE should be ok but book in advance (as soon as possible).
Good DJs (both for the restaurant and the club downstairs).
If you can afford to go by all means do so. If it will eat your entire budget it’s now worth it.
Forgot to say, it’ll probably be cheaper if you don’t go all out on the wine like we tend to do.
Oh, the food is pretty good (most people actually say it’s very good but I’ve been spoiled with company dinners in Luxembourg. Too many restaurants with Michelin stars here
).
