I think i did most of the leg work on looking for a flight, but the thing that really confuses me is the taxes involved with some flights.

The cheapest flight i’ve found for may 28th to july 12th of this year from bwi to lhr is 440 dollars from justfares.com

Now this doesnt include taxes, but according to their link on the taxes involved that would include:

-US Passenger Facility Charges: 3-18 dollars  (assume 18) times 2 (for inbound/outbound?) =36
-US Flight Segment Tax (3.00 dollars per take-off AND? landing) 3.00 per, so 6.00 each way, or 12 dollars
-September 11th Security Fee: 2.50 for every US based flight (2.50)
-Additional taxes/fees:  98 freakin dollars assuming worst case, MAN thats a killer.
-Shipping Fees/Ticket Fees (assume worst case of 20 dollars)

So my soon to be degree in engineering tells me that hopefully the maximum taxes and fees is 266.50

making the total flight cost 706.50

considerably cheaper than most of the sites around i think ive found, even cheaper than flying into odd places and puddle jumping to lhr (like shannon, ireland)

my one question is, am i missing something on these taxes and is justfares.com gonna tack on an extra charge?

flying into uk adds a lot of extra taxes. seems like if u fly there it is generally the cheapest for the fare but taxes are way higher than other countries. from my experience

That’s about right. Justfares will send you a fare quote and reserve a seat for you, before collecting your payment info. If it’s too much, just reply and cancel it.

So you need BWI LON 28MAY 12JUN … Try your itinerary at www.bookingbuddy.com — I see it $679 on FlyCheapAbroad.com (one of BBuddy’s links). Compare with Icelandair.com, and keep in mind the 10% discount mentioned in the “travel tip:” thread. For example, if you could shift outbound and return forward a few days, I see 679 direct from Icelandair; subtract 10% of base fare ($52), so you’re looking at $627 all in; it’s about $50 more on your exact dates. It’s always better to book direct from the airline if price is the same as other sources—if something goes awry during travel, you can deal direct with the airline, and not the middle-man, if you booked direct from the airline.

Hotwire found $639 (using return July 12)… but it’s from Dulles. Might not be worth it if BWI is more convenient for you. Hotwire tickets are completely inflexible once booked, and do not earn frequent flyer miles.
