Tents and sleeping bags
Wed, 03/09/2005 - 03:34
What is a good weight and size for a sleeping bag, and for a tent? I have found a tent that is 5 pounds and 22 × 5 inches – is that too big? And what is a good weight for a sleeping bag?
Does anyone know any cheep places to buy these items online?

You can find one-person tents that are 3 lbs, 6 oz. Go to your local sporting goods store and browse in their tent section if they have one. They might not have any one-person tents. Usually they only carry one or two brands of one-person tents and have more two-person tents which are heavier. If that fails, go to backcountry.com and browse. They have a good selection of one-person tents. Go to the Camp/Hike section, then tents, then Bivy and solo tents.
I’ve been using the Eureka! Solitaire One-Man Tent for 4 years and it’s been great. (I’m 6’3" and abt. 300 lbs)
The used the Kelty Light Year 25 Sleeping Bag while camping in S. America above 13,000 ft w/o any problems. It is lightweight, warm, and inexpensive. A camping trifecta!
Last year I used a Eureka! Zeus 2 EXO 2 man tent. It really can’t be considered a 2 person tent unless the people are tiny, but for a big guy like me, it was perfect for my pack and I. It also is really light..3lbs 10oz.
I second the kelty light year sleeping bag,2lbs or less in a long, packs about the size of a loaf of bread, dries quicker than a down bag etc.I use it more than others I have costing twice as much.As far as tents go I would recomend Seira Designs clip flashlight, its down right roomy for one person, light weight(under 4 lbs)super easy and quick to set up….and if need be is cozy enough for 2 people,by no means a 2 man tent it works well enough for one guy and a girl
