Sat, 04/02/2005 - 22:18
Living in so cal all my life, here are some things that you might find intresting
A good thing to plan on in Los Angeles, Food for a day if eating at reastraunts, 3 meals of FastFood will run about 15$ a day, Eating at sitdown reastraunts 3 – about 30, Drinking at a bar or club Beers run from 3$-9$, Shoots run from 4$-12$, Most clubs and bars that charge to get in is about 15$ (give or take a little) Best to rent a car in los angeles if your viseting, Gas prices right now are about 2.50 a gallon, Most places that have allot of people traffic will charge for parking – from 5$-20$, If your going to have internet access while here, check out http://sigalert.com (gives up to the min traffic report for all freeways)
Venice Beach – It is world renound for the street market, the booths, and street prefomers (best seen on a saterday or sunday morning 10 am – till closing at 4p.m.
Sunset Strip – The place for the biggest clubs in la, lots of people traffic, can just walk down the strip and have a good time (allso were the hollywood walk of stars is)
Santa Monica Pier – Good to kill a couple of hours, There are some Amusment park rides and some shops and reastraunts, aswell as Street preformers (good on a saterday night from 8 p.m. – 12 a.m.
Oceanside – Good clean beachs, some of the best in so cali.
Mellrose ave. – Diverse shoping area with lots of intresting street traffic, and off the wall stores.
Magic Mountian – The biggest Rollercoasters in cali, though exspect to spend atleast 120$ for a day there.
Martin Luther King Blvd (warning, only go here during the day) To see the real image of the pverty seen in Los Angeles, this is where to see it, its very intresting and makes ya think, but yet agin i only sugjest this during the day time.
Raging Waters – probally the best water park so cali has to offer
Disney Land – Good with a group of people, but not that fun by yourself. And if disney is your thing
3rd Street Prominade – Good night life, min walk from Santa Monica Pier (just have to fallow people walkin up the pier ramp away from the ocean to get there) Best seen on a Saterday night.
Universal Citywalk – Best seen on Friday and Saterday Nights Lots of bars, Great night life, lots of intresting traffic, and there is normally concerts at The Universal Ampatheatre (so check the dates), everystore for anything you would want to buy while traveling for suviniers.

Here are some websites for those places,
Magic Mountian – http://www.sixflags….
I know that they have a program for international students to come and work there for the summer, for when i worked there in High School during the summer I was fortunate to meet some people from all over the world that came to work there for the summer time.
Venice Beach – http://www.venicebea…
Sunset Strip – http://www.visitwest…
I would like to say for tavlers that are gay, they will find them selfs at home here, for its a flurishing gay community and some of the nicest people in hollywood, being that i am not and yet they allwase make you feel welcome wether thats your lifestyle or not.
Santa Monica Pier – http://www.santamoni…
Mellrose ave – http://www.seeing-st…
Raging Waters – http://www.ragingwat…
Disneyland – http://disneyland.di…
I have been here numourus times through out my life. Its a great place to have a good time, everyone is just happy to be there, if your into disny then this is a must for you, being i was braught up all my life watching disney movies and such i have allwase enjoyed every time i have gone.
3rd Street Prominade – http://www.thirdstre…
From food to bars to clubs and live street preformances, meet that girl to take out for the night, or find those guys to make you feel like the woman you are while trating you to drinks. There is allwase something going on there and great people watching.
Universal City walk – http://www.citywalkh…
I worked at a store here for over a year (sadly it closed last may but thats a diffrent story). You can spend a day at Universal Studios and then when that closes spend the night at citywalk. If you want a good bite to eat i sugjest to eat at The Daily Grill (i ate there regularly when i used to work at citywalk) If you want to hear a band then check out The Hardrock cafe, if you want to see some duiling pianos and have some drinks with friends then Howl at the moon is a great place, and If you want to party how we party then go to Saddle Ranch and get your self an Audious Mofo (kept the name clean but you get the name) last new years i drank two of them and i was more then spent.
Hope this stuff helps anyone planning on comming out here, If your traveling here then email me and i will be glad to show you around and try to help you get the most out of la possibile. Well happy trails
I will get some clubs and bars that are fun so you have ideas on places that arnt just tourists spots, in the next few days or so it should be up
do you work for L.A. tourism?
No i dont, hahahaha infact its a matter of i am not workin right now so i have the time to get all this stuff out, i feel since i am planning a trip to europe in 06, and i have seen allot of people just helping out with info on the area they live in, i thaught i could atleast return the favor by letting people know info about so cali.
I liked hanging out at the ritzy hotels in LA. The outside bar/deck area at the standard is pretty cool. I also enjoyed going out to Malibu…talk about gorgeous.
My L.A. recommendations:
If you like museums, you ought to visit LACMA, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. It has large Korean and Japanese art pavilions, as well as a good collection of American and modern paintings, and broad collections of many other countries and periods as well. They have rotating exhibitions frequently that are fun to go to, too.
www.lacma.org
If you like the Guggenheim Bilbao, you will love the Disney concert hall downtown, which was designed by Gehry and is similar in design to the Guggenheim. Catch a concert while downtown. Very close by is MOCA, the Museum of Contemporary Art, where (duh) contemporary art is shown. They have a permanent collection, but all displays are ‘temporary’, based on a theme and culled from their permanent collection and borrowed items.
www.moca.org
Not far from MOCA is the Central public library, which has some nice interior spaces with art ranging from beautiful to bloody ugly (visit and decide for yourself). There is a little cafe there as well as fast food, so it’s a good place to rest for lunchtime if you visit in the summer. There are some rotating exhibitions from time to time, three I remember are examples of original cels from classic Warner Brothers cartoons, original documents from the National Archives, and a history of Mattel toys (Mattel is based in L.A. and has long been a part of the local economy).
All in all, downtown is my favorite place in town to go. I’m not much of a beach person. If you go and stay mostly downtown, you can use public transport pretty easily (parking is VERY expensive downtown)…
