Three days on romantic road
Mon, 01/23/2012 - 18:14
Hi, I’d like a few suggestions to plan the romantic road portion of my next summer trip. As of now, we are planning to take a train from Paris to Wurzburg and rent a car from Wurzburg till Fussen (or might extend the rental till Salzburg). I’ve reserved hotels: 1 night in Wurzburg, 1 night in Burg Colmberg and 2 night at Fussen. So, it seems that on the first day I can start from Wurzburg, visit Rothenburg O.D.T and finish at Burg Colmberg. My issue is how to plan from Colmberg to Fussen on the next day. Assuming that we’ll be starting a little late from Colmberg, I’m considering what the best route would be if we are to get to Fussen by nightfall.
It seems that there’s about 250km from Colmberg to Fussen so I’m guessing we won’t be able to visit many romantic road towns along the way. Trying to decide between Nordlingen and Dinkelsbuhl. Any suggestion as to what would be the best choice? We want to spend the entire third day at Fussen around Ludwig’s castles but not sure if we would have time for a small excursion outside of Fussen (may be Linderhof palace???). I was hoping to visit Linderhof palace on our way to Salzburg if we are driving but am not sure of it since it seems the Alpine route from Fussen to Salzburg is a little obscure and I was unable to get more info on that. So, any suggestions on that part of the trip is much appreciated too.
I’m traveling with my wife and my parents so I’m even fine with visiting one town and just taking a scenic path to Fussen with intermittent stops. I’d appreciate any ideas, suggestions on this. Thanks.
I am leaving from Salt Lake City with $16000 for 20 days

I’ve never been, and can’t help with choosing between Nordlingen or Dinkelsbuhl, but for routing, have you checked out Google maps? It looks like the drive to Fussen is a little over two and a half hours, which I agree might only give you enough time for one town along the way, but maybe you could do both. Have also heard good things about Landsburg.
Thanks Cil. I checked Google Maps. It gave me about 250km from Colmberg to Fussen. I just didn’t think we’d have enough time to cover both, but yes, I’ll see if I can fit both in.
