Tough Decision
Fri, 10/01/2004 - 12:48
My friend and I are both teachers and we were planning on going to Italy over our Easter break. We’d be leaving on March 24 and returning the first weekend of April. I know that there are some great deals on airfare at this time. However, some things came up and it looks like June, right ater school, would be a better option. Is this going to be a HUGE killer as far as airfare costs? We’d be able to stay longer and we won’t have any stress about returning to school without a real break but if we’re going to be stuck paying some astronomical amount, it may not be worth it. I checked out a coupla pre summer sales and I was not impressed. Any suggestions?

Airfare costs will be higher durning the summer months…Also hotels maybe more expensive but it’s worth it if it gives you more time off

I’d normally say "wait" but a quick look at Expedia using ORD-FCO shows June fares to Rome are roughly $600 more than fares for your break. Since you can manage 7 or 8 full days (+ arrival day) in Italy, I’d go for it.
Check about accomodations, what’s open and what’s closed, etc. for good Friday and Easter weekend — especially in Rome — there will be thousands and thousands of pilgrims/tourists/whatever there for Easter.
Easter hotel rates are definitely be high season rates.
Go now… then, since you’re sure to love it, go again later!
Yeah, we know, money concerns. But hey, look at it this way: you’ll never regret having travelled. You’ll only ever regret having NOT travelled when you have the opportunity. You can always find a way to get the funds. Heck, fly now and collect air miles and redeem them later!
