Train from Athens to Berlin
Thu, 04/09/2009 - 23:32
I am traveling to Athens and would like to stop over in Berlin on my way to Stockholm where I reside. What tips can you give me to travel by train from Athens to Berlin? I am planning on departing May 15th for that weekend. Thanks!
I am leaving from London with $600 for 7 days

The only bit of advice I have for this one is: Don’t take the train. It’s 45 hours from Athens to Berlin and involves 3 to 6 connections.
Easyjet http://www.skyscanne…
Plus, that 45 hour trip isn’t through the best parts of Europe. Between ferry and cheap flights (I’d opt for the latter), you would save yourself a ton of time and it won’t cost much, if any, more.
Here you go, the least complicated train route and one of the fastest is this.
Day 1 Athína Lárisa dep. 10:51
train EuroCity 52 “Aiolos”
Day 1 Thessaloníki arr. 15:50, dep. 17:04
fast train 334 “Hellas”
Day 2 Beograd arr. 05:44, dep. 07:30
train InterCity 344 “Avala” (cont. to Prague)
Day 2 Budapest Keleti arr. 14:54, dep. 19:58
train EuroNight 476 “Metropol”
Day 3 Berlin Hbf. arr. 09:17
Expect it to cost about 270-350 euros one way.
Still not interested in airlines?
If you have any questions about Prague or Czech and Slovak republics, ask me.
If you only want to search train or bus connection within Czech&Slovakia and/or to neighboring countries, use www.cp.sk or www.idos.cz search engines. For domestic transport, they also show prices.
ah true, thanks for the information, all. i think i might transport via plane and properly plan a train excursion another time.

i want to travel from athens to prague….can u tell me a cheap price?
Actually, lots of Eurotrippers love Bosnia, Serbia, and Croatia. They’ve become quite popular, and they’re great countries to visit.
Serth:
It’ll be a very long train ride. There’s no shortage of flights between Athens and Berlin.

Use www.whichbudget.com to see which low fare airlines fly which routes, then check our “cheap flights” forum for more tips and advice.
The price is € 191.80 for the shortest route (through Skopje, Belgrade, Budapest, Bratislava). There is no discount price and no sale. This price does NOT contain high quality train supplements and seat reservation. The total time using the most convenient connection is 36 hrs 40 mins, with two changes (in Thessaloniki and Belgrade).
How do you like that? Still not interested in flying instead?
