Hi everyone, so I’m planning a Eurotrip December 2010, and was wondering if there are trains from Budapest to Venice? I tried finding some info online but it’s a little confusing and also I’m never quite sure if websites are up to date. If you guys have any info for me, that would be great!

I am leaving from NY with $2000 for 21 days
Ferrara, Venice, Prague, Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest, Rome, Pisa, Florence
Requesting help with Transport, Hostels, Budget, Itinerary, Food

Oh yeah, I’d be nice to have the prices and times of the trains too!
Thanks!

According to Bahn.de, there are plenty of connections during the day, but only 1 train with no connections — the Euronight train departing Budapest at 5 p.m. and arriving Venice 7:16 a.m. next morning. http://www.mav-start… confirms it but I couldn’t get it to show a fare.

99% of search engines are up to date. At least most of the search engines on websites of respective railway companies.

There are many connections between Budapest and Venezia, most of them with transfer in Vienna or Zagreb. There is also one direct train which requires no transfers, it’s the EuroNight #240 “Venezia”, leaving Budapest Keleti station (East Sta.) daily at 17:00 and arriving to Venezia Santa Lucia station at 07:16 the next morning.

Usually a price for sleeping in such train consists of two subunits: fare according to kilometrage and a supplement for a bed or a couchette. Unless there is a price special like Sparnight, where prices start as low as 29 EUR for the whole journey AND a couchette. Since your starting point is Budapest, please contact the Hungarian Railways to ask them about the price. The address is informacio@mav-start.hu or telephone No. + (36-1) 444-4499, where the plus sign is “011” if you’re calling from a North America, and “00” if you’re calling from Europe. It should be very cheap from Skype or such services (it’s a landline, not a mobile number), just remember that it’s six hours later in Budapest than in NYC.

If you have any questions about Prague or Czech and Slovak republics, ask me.
If you only want to search train or bus connection within Czech&Slovakia and/or to neighboring countries, use www.cp.sk or www.idos.cz search engines. For domestic transport, they also show prices.
