I am planning on taking the train form Granada to Seville in September. When I make my seat reservation, does it make any difference which side of the train I sit on to enjoy the best scenery?
Thanks.

Interesting question. I drove in that part of Spain, so can’t offer advice specifically but I don’t think it’ll matter. How long of a train ride is it?

There are 4 direct trains daily; they take just about 3 hours.
I just wondered if there are mountains and other scenery that would be better viewed from a paticular side of the train.

Once I was told that it was going to be a “beautiful ride” blah blah…
It was nothing special… I think I sat on the right, but I don’t remember major differences….

I’m not sure which route the train will take exactly, but here’s a map of the country’s railroad network.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/1d/Red_ferroviaria_espa%C3%B1ola.png

Which ever route, it doesn’t look like there will be much of a difference.  Granada is surrounded by mountains, but the ones directly south of the city are the high and majestic Sierra Nevada range.  After that, you will most likely see the same scenery (mile after mile of olive orchards, with low mountains here and there) on both sides of the train. Whichever route towards Sevilla the train takes, you eventually leave the mountainous area where Granada is situated, and enter a large plain where Sevilla is, the Guadalquivir River valley.

*This map is as of 2005. The dotted green-yellow line is the high-speed AVE lines.  A new AVE line branches off the Madrid-Sevilla line, at Córdoba, to Málaga.  In the northeast, the AVE now goes past Lleida to San Vicenç de Calders (Between Tarragona and Barcelona).

Hey luv_the_beach.
Thanks for the response and link to the map.
Yeah, there are 4 direct trains daily. From what I can tell from the Renfe website it looks like there are a couple of different routes depending on the time of departure.
Thanks again.
