Hello, I’m trying to figure out the best way to get from Rome to Montreux, Switzerland, which I suppose is by train. Montreux is a small town so I’m guessing it is not a likely direct train destination from Rome. If anybody can help me find the train route from Rome to Montreux I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

http://www.bahn.de/i… has nearly all train schedules in Europe. Rome Termini to Montreux looks like daytime trains at 6 hours, 23 minutes and only 1 connection. It shows some night trains, too, but roughly twice the duration. Looks like Easyjet are on Orly-Geneva quite cheap with advance purchase, but for this trip, I’d probably lean toward daytime train because of the scenery. (Not done it yet myself, however).

Montreux has a lot of train traffic. Here is a scenic route; check it to see how long it would take. Rome to Milan to Brig to Spies to Montreux via Gstaad. An alternative would be to fly to Geneva and take a train or boat to Montreux (but boat service is limited in the winter).

By rail

Montreux is well-connected via several rail lines. Regular fast trains depart Montreux Train Station for Italy, France, Lausanne and Geneva. The Chocolate Train and Wine Train are two themed rail daytrips that venture out into the surrounding region.

By bus

Montreuxs only bus route is number 1 and runs every 10 minutes along the edge of Lake Geneva, between Vevey and Villeneuve. Considering Montreuxs size and orientation, this bus route is quite sufficient for the town. Bus connections for destinations farther afield are made at either terminus.
