I have a unlimited use month railpass and I was wondering if I have to activate it if I am going to make a train reservation at the rail station. Here’s the situation. I arrive in Amsterdam on June 29th and I am leaving on July 2nd to travel to Paris. Can I make the reservation when I arrive and then activate my pass the day of travel which allows me to have more days of travel on the railpass (I fly out of Prague on August 3rd). I hope this makes sense but I’m trying to stretch the railpass for as close to my departure date as possible.

I am leaving from Boston with $4000 for 36 days
Amsterdam, Bruges, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, Nice, Florence, Venice, Salzburg, Prague

I don’t think you’ll have a problem buying the reservation without validating the railpass.

Is a 30 consecutive day pass really the best deal for your itinerary? A 10 day in two month global pass is $300 cheaper (adult) and an 8 day, 5 country select pass (buy point to point ticket for the portion of your trip in Czech Rep) is $425 cheaper.

Well I’m 25 and I bought the global pass (youth) awhile ago for $700 and my route has changed somewhat so I think it’s going to end up being the right choice. Basically we are going to travel around to some smaller towns in Spain, France, and Italy, after Madrid and we’re planning on taking mostly overnight trains. Although in the end the 10 day in 2 months might have worked out and been cheaper. I’ll be sure to let everyone know how it worked out and thanks for the info on the reservation.
