train travel to Auschwitz?
Thu, 04/29/2010 - 13:55
Hello, I am having a hard time deciding which of these would make more sense:
We will arrive in Krakow in the morning and have a full day to look around the city.
The next day, we would like to visit Auschwitz. That same night, we would be taking a night train to Munich.
So would it make more sense to:
1) take bus tour to Auschwitz in the morning and return in the afternoon (leave our bags at hostel). Then have dinner in Krakow while we wait to get onto the night train.
2) That 2nd morning, take train to Katowice, leave our bags in a locker in the train station, then make our way to Auschwitz from there. After we tour the camp, go back to Katowice and leave for Munich from there.
The 2nd one has obviously no back-tracking. But the first one just seems easier in the end even though we have to go back to Krakow.
Which would you do if you had the choice?? Thanks so much
I am leaving from Canada with $5000 for 38 days
Amsterdam, Hanover, Berlin, Munich, Zürich, Lucerne, Rome, Florence, Paris, Bruges, Lille, London

Factors I’d consider in deciding…
How close is your hostel to where you catch the bus tour and to the train station? Back tracking that involves a couple of city buses, trams, subways, whatever in addition to going back to Krakow could be very stressful as well as time consuming.
Are there luggage lockers at Katowice or is some other secure and easy option for leaving your pack available?
