Hi All

I will be in Salzburg late May and I am keen to visit Großglockner High Alpine Road and Krimmler Waterfalls. are these 2 places near each other?

I checked with a taxi company (Taxi 4 U) and they quoted me 529 Euros for a day trip. this is what they said:

_“from the start at the Glocknerstr. in Fusch to Krimml is the distance around 60km
From Salzburg to Fusch round 100 km
Beginn of the Glocknerstr. to Heiligenblut via Franz Josefs Höhe 60 km

All in one day is about 6 – 7 hours in the car and the time you want to spend at some places ( Edelweisspitze, Franz Josef Höhe, Krimml….. break in a restaurant…).
I think this trip is 10- 12 hours.

The price all on 1 day 529.- Euro (the toll is included)”_

am i being ripped off? is there a cheaper way to visit Großglockner High Alpine Road and Krimmler Waterfalls? I will be staying at Haus Am Moos. (Strasser Moosstraße 186a A-5020 Salzburg)

Also, if i want to go to Hellbrunn and Mirabell garden, is it better to take a bus to those places on my own or join the sound of music tour? I am afraid the tour might not give us enough time to explore each place and take plenty of photographs.

Thanks in advance!

I am traveling for 13 days

529 euros is always a rip off in my book, but that’s probably how much a taxi will cost. 75 euros an hour probably isn’t out of line

Looks like an exercise for google maps or mapquest to me.

$750 US???? Wha!! Of course hiring a car and driver is going to be more expensive than public transit or renting a car. Go to the big rental companies (avis, etc.). You can get a small car (Ford Focus, renault, etc.) for like $130 Euros a day. Google “car rental codes” and see if you can find a promotion code to enter when booking online (sometimes the promo codes can reduce the rental cost considerably or provide you with a free upgrade). I’ve used a car rental company called Sixt in the past (I think it’s based in Germany but also rents cars in Austria and Switzerland). Renting a car in Austra is expensive by north american standards but still cheaper than a taxi

Renting a car for this kind of sightseeing is an excellent suggestion.
