Hi everyone, I am traveling with my grilfriend in Europe and we were looking into two different things: busabout or eurorail pass (15 day 2 month deal), we are traveling for a total of 37 days June 10 to July 17th. My question is, which one is better for the following itenerery.

London
Paris
Bruges or Brussels
Amsterdamn
Berline
Prauge
Venice
Ancona — > Athenes (Island Hopper Tour)
Athenes —> Ancona
Rome
Florance
Nice
Somehwhere in Switzerland (not sure where yet)
Last day Zurich — > London — > Canada

What do you think?

I am also looking for some traveling adivce in terms of what should I book? How organized do I have to be… etc… should I reseve Hostels in advance or not?

Thanks,
Alex

I would definitely do a rail pass over a busabout.  I think you’ll save a lot of time and it will just be a whole lot easier.

As far as being organized, its really just up to your personality type.  Some people like to plan everything out to as much detail as they can, others like to have no plans at all.  Personally, I prefer as little planning as possible to keep things open and spontaneous.  When I plan I feel locked into it.  Other people like that security though.

As far as booking hostels in advance, I always book the first night, but usually that it.  Looking for a hostel while suffering from jet lag sucks.

Thanks jkfaust. What about booking the trains in advance? I see some people do that… would that be advisible? or only for certain parts?

Also the reason why I asked about the hostels, is because my travel agent told me i should book them in advance… but I found that to be hard if I want to have a somewhat flexible schedule… do you guys think I will have problems finding a hostel?

Have you actually calculated the time you have in each place and the time it takes to get there?  You are probably trying to cover too many huge placesthat are too distant from one another in too little time.  London, Paris, Rome, Berlin, Florence alone would require 20 days minimum for most people.  You will have to be VERY organized to pull this off – no time for room searches on the hoof.    I would need to know exactly where I was staying, get there, drop my stuff, and get on with my sightseeing.

Busabout would probably be cheaper, but there’s usually only one bus a day or perhaps one bus every other day between the cities in the busabout loop.  I don’t think you can accomplish this schedule with those logistics.  As Russ said, you’ll have to be very organized and book every single detail — no room for “we love Prague and want to spend an extra day” in this itinerary.  I think this will be a very stressful trip.

Thanks, I am still thinking then of cutting some cities…

Some cities I just wanted to pass by, not necesserly stay there for long.. but I think you guys are right…

My travel agent is still pushing with the train idea….

Ok, I will get cracking on my itenerery, guess I will cut some stuff out

Also… I am not planning to spend more then 1 day in London (since I will be doing school there in the fall) and Paris too, maybe only 3 days…
