Travel Insurance
Fri, 10/01/2004 - 09:25
I need German visa to travel to Germany from USA (Green card holder). Although I have health insurance they will not issue letter stating $37000 intl. health insurance, Know of any reputed place to buy travel insurance who has representative office in Europe.

i think theres travel insurance info at ETN.nl
Is traveler’s insurance essential? I would like to hear people’s opinions. I wasn’t planning on purchasing this.
I would strongly recomend it for you to take it in case something hapens while on your trip…Medical costs if you become ill can be sky high because alot of insurances will not cover you abroad..

Medical insurance is absolutely essential. You do not want to be getting sick in a foreign country without insurance. Medical bills can run into the thousands of dollars very quickly.
But check with your current insurance carrier, many offer travel insurance built into their regular plans. For example, my work plan gives me great travel insurance.
Things like cancellation/interruption, lost baggage, etc, is up to you. How much would it cost to replace lost baggage versus the price of paying the insurance? What are the chances of having to cancel or interrupt your trip, and what would be the associated costs? Bear in mind that most cancellation/interruption insurance only pays under very limited circumstances (the death of an immediate family member or illness requiring hospitalization for you) and they won’t kick in if, for example, you have to change your trip dates because of an exam.
I usually just go with health insurance. I don’t find the other kinds of insurance all that necessary. I rarely take anything expensive with me. And I usually get a plane ticket that’s semi-flexible in case of having to change plans. But it’s up to you.
