traveling from greece to slovakia
Thu, 04/30/2009 - 11:52
hello, i am new in the site… well, i am planning to visit kosice in slovakia and i try to find the easiest-cheaper way…. i searched air-flights but they don’t seem cheap enough…. Does anyone know about train or bus traveling through Balkans??? or a good way to fly relatively cheap to slovakia?

This will be a grueling trip by train and probably even worse by bus. Where in Greece? Where in Slovakia? Where (websites) have you checked for flights? What alternate cities have you tried?
Check the cheap flights forum for tips and try www.whichbudget.com to see which budget airlines fly which routes.

Look for these routes: Athens to Prague, Athens to Vienna. Book soon to get a good price. Slovakia has frequent and cheap connections with both Vienna and Prague.
If you have any questions about Prague or Czech and Slovak republics, ask me.
If you only want to search train or bus connection within Czech&Slovakia and/or to neighboring countries, use www.cp.sk or www.idos.cz search engines. For domestic transport, they also show prices.
Also, give us a date. Some trains and flights start operating in mid-June.

well, thanks for the advice, i live in thessalononiki and i want to reach kosice. but i could travel to athens and fly from athens to prague or bratislave or vienna… to my search (including flyscanner, flyeurope, czech airlines, and wegolo) there is flight for round trip from thessaloniki to kosice (change planes in prague, with czech airlines) with around 350 euro, but still, it looks expensive and it would be much more ineresting to see more of balcan if i travel through balcan by train or bus…. My concern is that i can’t find bus routes to czech or slovakia… there is a train athens-thessaloniki-…-bukuresti… and some friends told me that i could take another train from bucuresti to kosice…. but if this trip lasts 3 days to go and another 3 days to return (well is it confortable?) and most important is it cheap or will it be like 150 euro to go and 150 euro to return?…… well has anybody made this route??? and is it easy maybe to travel by train from vienna to bratislava and then to kosice by train or bus? (because there are cheap flight from greece to vienna) and about the date…. i would like to make my trip once during the middle of May and once again during the beggining of july…..
SkyEurope can get you from Thessaloniki directly to Prague or Vienna. I looked at June prices and it starts from 33 eur one way. Both Vienna and Prague have direct trains to Kosice, 6 hrs ride from Vienna, 8 hrs from Prague.

I was very disappointed in Greece when i first went there was expecting lots of ruins Oplympus and all of the old legends but apart from a few in Athens there really is nothing to see i mean i think i’ll choose some advertising link removed by moderator over Greece any day
