I’m throwing ideas around for a trip to Europe next summer and I know it is WAY too early to look for airfare now. But just to get an idea…about what time would you start looking for fares if you wanted the best deals? January/Februaryish?

Yes, Jan/Feb from consolidators, especially if you need to stay >30 days and/or departing from a non-gateway city (ie, airport without nonstop flights to Europe). Try discountflights.com, flights.com, economytravel.com, justfares.com there are many—shop around.

hey-I’m studying abroad and leaving for Ireland in Aug 2005-I’ve looked a bit-but am planning to book in jan. Check out zoom airlines out of Canada-unbelievable prices. i’ve heard good things about them. I’m planning on roadtripping to vancouver then flying out of there. Good luck w/your trip!
