Travelling to Prague
Sun, 06/24/2007 - 00:17
[=“times new roman”]My 2 friends and I are planning a trip the includes travel to Prague. We’re wondering how to best do Vienna-Prague-Amsterdam by rail. We are planning to buy a global pass youth flexi, but we know that the czech republic is not included in the 18 countries, and doubt that the pass includes travel into the country from one that is included. Can we get your advice on how to make our trip to Prague cheap?
Thanks for your help!

You can just use your pass to the border, and then you’ll have to buy a ticket from the border to Prague.
We just booked a prague excursion pass from rail europe and it was $67 plus $10 for insurance and it gives you one round-trip ticket from any Czech border to Prague and then back to any Czech border (doesn’t have to be the same one). You have to complete the travel within 7 days but I think most trips to Prague are less than that anyways.

Cheapest is to buy the border to Prague ticket in Germany and buy the Prague back to border ticket in Prague. Easier, but slightly more expensive, it to buy both border-Prague-border tickets in Germany.
I think some of the railpass sites still sell a “Prague excursion pass.” If you haven’t bought your railpass yet (so you won’t have to pay another shipping fee) that’s a little more expensive than buying the tickets in Europe.
You can sometimes buy the ticket from the conductor on the train, but you will need cash — often correct change in Czech — and the price will be high because it includes a fine.
