My buddies and I are going to try and go to Europe next summer and are trying to get together an idea of prices and if we can make it happen. If we want to go in July and start in Amsterdam for 4 days go to Frankfurt for 2 days, Milan for 2 days, Barcelona 3 days, Paris 2 days, London 2 days, then finish it with 3 more days in Amsterdam. what would be the best way to get around? Also should we stay an extra week and add a day to every place or maybe cut out a city or 2. We are open to any suggestions. Also our budget is 2500 dollars.
Thanks

I am leaving from Knoxville, TN with $2200 for 21 days
Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, Rome, Venice, Prague, Berlin, Amsterdam

I would use the train for this trip other than flying to and from Barcelona. If Milan is your only destination in Italy, you might look for a flight there, too.

Why have you chosen Frankfurt and Milan? They’re both big, modern cities that are “OK” but aren’t the greatest from a tourist standpoint. Paris and London each need a minimum of 3 days, preferably 4. While you’d probably enjoy 4 days in Amsterdam, I’d cut a day there in favor of more time elsewhere.

A more comfortable trip would be to leave either Spain or Italy for your next trip and spend more time (and see more than a single major city) in France, Netherlands and Germany.

Thanks for the response we have just started planning this trip and are open for some other cities and dropping out some. If you have any cities on our route if we dropped out Milan and Barcelona, I’m more than happy to change our plans. Also, were all 21 and we wanna spend a majority, probably 6 or 7 days, in Amsterdam and then use our other days to take it a little easier and see the sights (not saying we won’t in Amsterdam just a little less).

Consider an open-jaw ticket, meaning you fly into one city and back home from another. That way you won’t waste time backtracking to Amsterdam and you may save money as well.

Well we were considering that, but we actually found a flight from our smaller home town for 950, and it seems to be by far the cheapest we’ve found.

$950 isn’t bad really, but sales for next summer haven’t hit yet, so you might find something cheaper if you check frequently once sales start. I’ve had open-jaw tickets be cheaper than round trip tickets a number of times. And be sure to factor in the cost of that extra trip to get back to Amsterdam when making your decision.

Just thought I’d alert you that right now there is a great deal out of Knoxville that will likely disappear really quick. You can fly United from Knoxville to Madrid for $633 taxes included. I know Madrid wasn’t listed in your itinerary, but you can easily & cheaply get to Barcelona, Amsterdam, Paris, London, etc. from there. This fare is not available for the exact dates you have for your itinerary because to get the fare you have to fly Mon-Thurs, but if you can adjust your travel dates by a couple of days you could save a good amount with this fare.

Hey thanks man I really appreciate that. We have kind of changed our plan so that its currently Amsterdam-London-Paris-Venice-Prague-Berlin-Amsterdam but we are open to changes especially if we can save money. Is there any website that I can get updates on sales and such.

You can sign up for fare alerts with expedia, orbitz, etc. and check airfarewatchdog.com for those short-lived sales that pop up at times. People post good fares they find in the cheap flights forum here too.
