Hi,

Trying to get to grips with the eurorail system, I’m traveling from brussels through; lux, prague, berne, barcelona and rennes. I figure I can get a flexi global pass with around 8 days rail time on it to travel between countries, as I have 26 days and want to explore each country. Yet I also read that I cannot use the eurorail pass to get from England (Home country) to brussels, so would I be best taking the Eurostar and then linking into brussels.

Also would $1500 be a big enough budget for this trip or will I be spending a whole lot more do you think?

Cheers

Ben

I am leaving from Manchester with $1000 for 20 days
Rotterdam, Brussels, Luxembourg, Prague, Gdańsk, Rotterdam

I don’t understand several things in your post….

1. Your question?? There are 4 Eurostar routes: London to Paris, London to Brussels, London to EuroDisney and London to Lille. The regular price is the same for the first 3 and only slightly lower if you get off at Lille — not enough lower to pay for a ticket to Brussels. The special leisure fares are the same on all 4 routes. Your railpass gives you a discount on Eurostar, but if you qualify for a youth ticket (age 25 and under) the discount is the same as the regular youth fare. Use www.eurostar.com to look specials and cheap leisure fares — including possibly buying a round trip. If you can’t find cheap fares on Eurostar for the day you want to travel look for a cheap flight to Brussels

2. Home country?? If you’re a citizen of England you can’t buy a eurail pass. You’ll need to use interrail which is a whole different ball game.

3. $1,500 That’s less than $60 a day if it doesn’t include the Eurail pass and Eurostar ticket. It would be extremely difficult to live on that in the cities you plan.

I was asking for info thats all, and youve come up with some, you have to bear with me having not really travelled before.

I’ve looked at interrail through rail europe. If I was to get the flexi pass that covers 22 days and allows 10 days rail time. That would cover my travel. It says nowhere on the rail europe site that I cannot purchase an interrail pass if I live in the EU just that I cannot use it to travel within my home country i.e. England.

Therefore If I were to get a eurostar ticket to brussels as you suggest, then surely I could use my inter rail pass for the duration of my travels around europe, then get a eurostar ticket from paris to London to get back.

With money, I’m working in pound sterling, which at the moment on my budget would work out at roughly 48 euros a day, I presume accomodation would eat into this slightly, but with general sight seeing etc, what expenses would i have in a day?

I’m not (being a Yank) familiar with interrail, but I still think you’ve got some confusion about how it works.

I didn’t think RailEurope.com (a competitor to the folks who kindly sponsor this site, BTW) sold interrail tickets????, but maybe they have a different site for sales to Europeans? I think Interrail is based on zones, so you may have buy a pass for more than 1 zone to cover your trip. Look at http://www.interrail… for information on interrail. I don’t think there’s a discount on Eurostar with interrail.

I don’t think 48 euros a day would be adequate for the trip you’ve planned unless you’re planning on never partying and not visiting a ton of museums and stuff, but you know what you spend in UK which is probably a better way to gauge than my view. Your expenses in terms of food, drink and local transportation to get to all the sights should be similar to home. Price a few hostels (use the “booking” tab at the top of the page) and look at the websites for some of the attractions you want to visit.
