As the title suggests the UK will be doubling it’s air tax from feb 1.This seems to apply to all ticketed to travel after that day no matter if you have bought your ticket or not.
This means
intra-eu flight tax will now be 10 quid up from 5.
long haul econ tax will now be 40 quid up from 20.
long haul premimum class will now be 80 quid up from 40.
This is all being down for the "envirorment". Riddclous that now just the UK depature tax will be about US$75 plus all the US depature taxes means that on some routings the taxes/surcharges will reach $175!

Another article I read indicates that the entire EU is soon going to have a similar scheme. This will definitely make it harder for us to save with cheap flights.

Thanks to Gordon Brown?

Maybe flights to non-EU members like CH, NO, and IS will become more competitive when total charges and fees are compared.
