Uploading pictures in Internet Cafe
Wed, 11/01/2006 - 15:31
Let me start my saying im not very savvy with the terms used in photography. Nevertheless, I recently built a message board to post pictures on while I am travelling Europe.
Can someone tell me how to upload picutres from my camera to my message board while travelling? Is it possible to do this without downloading my camera’s software into the computer at the Internet cafe, since they probably won’t let me do this?
Oh, i also haven’t bought my camera yet, so if any special kind of camera or memory card is required to do this that would be good to know too. Thanks
to my knowledge all digital cameras will come with a usb connection cable and the software isn’t required. Just plug in the usb and find it in My Computer, you may want to consult the person working at the cafe first. The only company that may be different is sony because they like to keep their brands easily compatable with each other and not so compatable with others.
The one thing that may be a problem is that the picture size your taking (3MP and up) is quite a large file size and will take a long time to upload, also will take up lots of webspace. It’s nice to have the quality and the print capabilities of 3MP, but its far too much for web viewing. Some websities automatically downsize the picture (usually the ones with free hosting and unlimited # of picts) but you still have a long time to upload them. Cant do much about that unless the computer has some photo software to resize the pict. Some cafes will have card readers for their computers, depending on the type, just pop in the card and there they are. Secure digital and Compact Flash are most common card types(sony memory stick usually isnt compatable unless its a sony computer, or you have a special card reader).
I always burn mine to cd so I take home the high quality, then just let the automatic software resize it, it just takes a few extra minutes to upload them.
Many places will also not let you directly plug your camera into their computers. You often have to transer the pics to a CD or something similar, then you should be able to upload after that (but def downsize those photos).
I dont think a cd would help b/c i have to have the pictures linked to my messageboard from somewhere on the internet like photobucket. I was just wondering what i would need to transfer my pics to photobucket at the cafe.
